Anybody have 265 width tires on 19" 313s without spacers? I need a picture for reference to see how the wheels sit in line to the fender. I currently have spacers with 255s and will be getting new tires so I'm deciding between keeping 255s with spacers or 265s without.

Just installed mhd stage 1. The car feels so smooth now where before it was a jerky especially with the dct on sport shifting. How do I know the DCT is still using all of it's shift pressure?

Also what settings are you guys running for burble?

I just installed a bunch of goodies and am all tuned up, but my VRSF downpipes sound pretty raspy. It just doesn't have that same sexy tone that these downpipes had on my '09 335i. Been doing some research on this and it looks like a common issue with our 335is.

Anyone else have this issue and resolved it? Seems like the Vibrant resonators 1792 gets the job done so I'm looking to go that route.

I removed my secondary cats and added 1792's. Still a bit raspy under light load but sounds much better than before

How does removing the secondary cats affect noise/smell? You mention it sounds better, but does it get louder?

Also, the rasp isn't bad through the entire powerband, it's only noticeable around 5k+

Random thoughts after years of ownership. Car design is definitely starting to show its age vs the newer generation stuff out there now (all luxury brands) but man I still cant find anything comparable right now (other than C43 coupe) to when this was new with 19" 313's. Meaning at the time 2010-2013 this was the most beautiful car for that segment you could buy imo. At the moment there is nothing that im in love with really so still holding on to this thing until 2019-2020 when I see what the new vette is going to actually look like or the M4 redesign. Would have been nice to trade up to a 435IS if they ever made one, but unfortunately that ship probably sailed.

Was almost about to pull the trigger on a 2017 C43 coupe with all the bells and whistles including sport exhaust, but did not for 2 big reasons despite liking the design a lot including the interior which is on another level now vs BMW in general ( but excluding the hideous up right ipad dash looking thing - terrible) That is going away in 2019 for the C43 with the new glorious looking MBUX system. Beautiful.

1. The difference in 9 speed automatic transmission on benz vs DCT on the 335is was night and day even though power was more or less the same. I'm not sure I will enjoy driving any car going forward that doesnt have a Dual clutch truthfully. Felt like every other generic luxury car out there (new vette is said to have DCT)

2. The sport exhaust note was louder, but sounded like sht with really heavy "BLAPS!" as it shifts. All I heard was BLAP! (2 second pause) BLAP! That just didnt work imo. Felt like it was trying too hard to be obnoxious whereas the 335is exhaust note is just heaven. I'm in my 30's now, a bit more matured, so not trying to be that guy with stupid loud exhaust note unless im in a Ferrari 458 which is loud as hell, but also heaven.

With that said design alone simply isnt enough for me to switch cars. It has to have that special feel when driving and it has to sound really good. So for now I will hold onto my 7 year old 335IS DCT with 34k miles until there's something that I absolutely cant pass up in the 50-60k range. Just nothing out there that fits the bill within price range atm.

Blue E92, You had to have gone in the middle of the week, I have never seen the Deal's Gap parking lot that empty before.

Going up that way over the 4th of July myself, which is on a Wednesday this year, so I don't know how busy it will be or not. I am sure like the last holiday I went up there the cops will be out in force and so will the bikes.

@ 335ISlbk - As far as the car goes, as the attrition continues and the car becomes harder to find I think it will hold it's style and value. But after all, it is 2011-13 - a 7 to 5 year old car. I have had mine now for 3 years and Evil is a garage queen that I pamper. 50k miles of smiles so far.

Cheers

New Wheels and Tires

My 335is had some bent and fixed (including some welds) 19" rims when I purchased it and so I recently replaced all 4 wheels and tires.

For Wheels I decided to go down to 18" to get a little taller side wall to deal with daily driving durability - the road conditions in this country keep getting worse WRT potholes. I Went with VMR V801 in Anthracite Black. 8.5" width on Front and 9.5" width on Rears with 35mm offset on both. This was their size recommendation.

For Tires I ditched run flats and went with the new Michelin Pilot 4 S with 235s on front and 265s on rears. Very good looking tires.

Love the look and feel so far. Kind of a close fit which is evident when backing and turning in my driveway. The left front tire slightly rubs the plastic grill in the fender well (the one that is right behind the oil cooler). It only rubs in reverse with brakes applied and is due to suspension compliance. AND I think the fender liner and grill is slightly deformed (not sure why) on left side vs right. SO it is a close fit but works without issue.

smell is a bit more pronounced, I can only smell it every once and awhile from inside the car and that's only when stopped at lights. It's just a bit louder than it was with the secondaries still in.

Reason it was so empty is because I got there around 8:10am, no cops or anyone in my way. But had the radar detector running just in case.

Oil Catch Can (OCC) on '13 335is?

I was wondering if any owners of 335is have any experience with carbon build up on intake valves. I read somewhere that BMW had modified the crank case breather system in the later model engines (used in the 335is) and that installing oil catch cans are really not necessary.

Anyone have experience saying that on the '11-'13 335is engine that carbon build up is still a problem and that walnut blasting or some other removal is required.

OR

Anyone have experience with installing an OCC on the '11-'13 335is engine and finding that they got no oil, very little oil, or a lot of oil in the OCC?

I had mine checked just a few months back, I had just over 49k on it then and my indy shop said not to do it yet. Suggested somewhere around 60k to bring it back in. I guess it all depends on a lot of things, gas, usage, mileage. But like the shop owner and I talked about, 60k miles I a good checking point.

I couldn't believe my car was still running when I pulled the manifold at 60k, tons of buildup. Intake piping was coated in oil, but I have not installed an OCC.

I just did mine recently at 55k miles, the buildup was pretty bad. I recommend doing the job if you're over 40k.

A few mechanics I spoke to have suggested the same to wait til 60k miles to do it. I was late and did it around 70k but the build up was bad and present. Prior to 60k the build up may differ based on how often you drive and where you drive it. But I think beyond 60k they all have the same amount of build up more or less.

I would think around $18K or $19K, but it's hard to say what condition it is in.
You have some nice mods but it's hard to count those into the appraisal.

I bought mine a year ago with 50K on it for $24K

I picked up my IS for a great deal w/93K miles on it. Did a walnut blast pretty soon after I got it, guy said it wasnt that bad. When I installed the new 7in FMIC I put on OCC on as well to keep everything clean. I have only done about 300 miles since putting everything on (car is not my DD) so I havent checked to see if anything is in there yet. Ill repost once i do crack it for the first time.

Bottom line is car is direct injected and dirty shit is going to be flying around. OCC wont hurt...
