Part-throttle / low boost dynos FTW! LOL

I went to the dyno on a spur of the moment opportunity. It wasn't ready by any stretch (map is v2 since just adding the JB4 back in mix), but was curious where it sits since I could finally get over 19psi and hold it steady. I planned to mostly use it for logging that I can't do on the street.

The first pull (5th) took forever to get through the gear and peak torque seemed absurdly low. I mentioned low torque after each of the first couple of pulls and just scanned timing and peak boost between runs. Both looked OK, but it wasn't until I got home and took a closer look at the logs that I noticed the pedal issue. It downshifted on the guy winding up for the first pull and he was apparently afraid of pushing too far, too fast it after that. He wasn't getting to 100% pedal (100% boost target) until 6000rpm on any runs. So peak boost was fine, problem was, it wasn't getting anywhere close to it until the runs were over. Not really anyone's fault, just wish I had caught it while it was still strapped down.

Highest peak torque was 460wtq (3500rpm) and as can be seen in the logs, was made somewhere between just 12-14psi (should have been 20-21psi). Oops.

I don't put any stock in a single number at this point and curves aren't even worth posting, obviously. I plan to go back before Christmas armed with a kick-down blocker or it coded out in the map to avoid this situation again. I'll run 93 only again to get solid, correct numbers on it this time with all the boost through the entire gear LOL

Vid of the first pull. At the beginning, you can see it downshifted and got away from him when he tried to start the run. When they finally got it going, it was the longest 5th gear in history and below the vid is the log of that pull showing why. Full boost target (100% pedal) wasn't reached until 6300rpm. Still only 14psi at 5000rpm and 15psi at 5500rpm LOL Every single-gear (and the first gear of the multi-gear runs) were the exact same issue. If you look closely at the monitor at the end of the vid, you can see the HP flatline at the end where it finally reached full boost target and stayed there for all of 500rpm. Sounds good though, never get to hear my car from the outside

...all runs after were the same with the pedal/boost target...

...just because, 3rd-5th DCT vid.

To recap: 80-84F during pulls, our usual low 28.9x in/Hg, 93 octane, version 2 map on a new tuning setup, part-throttle (low boost) until 6000rpm: 470whp/460wtq for single-gear runs LOL Logs show the pedal/boost story. I'm taking mid-400s for torque at just 12-14psi as a win for now and HP is in the ballpark. Going back to re-run on 93 again soon with a kick-down blocker for the driver this time.

Ken Atkinson AKA Wedge, service was brilliant and tunes really nice and smooth, will put up a picture of the dyno readout shortly. He also did a custom set up of the exhaust flapper for me which is forced open 1-3 gears and normal the rest so its nice quite motorway cruiser but I get to enjoy the noise at window down speeds

Hey guys,

I created a google document where you all can enter in your dyno runs which will then populate a dashboard I created. The fields at the top are pretty self-explanatory. This can be a pretty cool little feature the community can use to compare power levels across tunes, tuners, and fuel.

The data source is located here(please enter meaningful data)Click here to enter data:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=2058015052

The Dashboard will update once a day automatically. I will also be looking at the data added to the sheet making sure it’s not garbage. So please no profanity, fake data, or trying to break it. If you got a record post the corresponding dyno somewhere.

Here is a link to the BMW N54 Dashboard
https://public.tableau.com/profile/h...BMWN54Database

The current data in the sheet was just grabbed from random areas to get it started. Have fun guys.

So the process is, enter your data in google docs, wait for me to update dashboard, see your data!
