A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I share your hope for future battery technology but you need to consider one factor. If I run out of fuel I can hitch a ride to a gas station and pick up a gallon of Fuel. Can a EV owner go pick up a can of electricity? This leaves us with Hybrids and current technology on these (with a couple exceptions) are worthless. They are nothing more that EV with a ICE back up. Real Hybrid technology needs to be a down sized ICE with a battery enhancement. More like WEC and Formula One and less like BMW's X5 xDrive50e. Never going to happen, a million reasons this is an impossibility have been posted here over the last several years. This is as close to a second amendment issue as you can get. |

Didn't I just do that? Have you driven an EV? The only thing holding them back is the battery tech. IF that is conquered, as it appears to be in the next few years, EVs are superior in every way. With 500+ mile range and quick charging, an ICE powered vehicle is primitive by comparison.

What are solid-state batteries and why do we need them? Think back to the introduction of solid-state HD's. Lots of promises followed by low capacity and high prices before fulling the promises. My servers still run conventional HD's |

I also used to run a data center in my last job were we had a lot of video servers (video on demand) I was replacing high end top $$ SSD's almost weekly. solid state is a decade or two away from being as reliable as conventional. I type this on my conventional drive laptop that has 7 years of hard service life on it, not a single issue so far. Some may say I've had bad luck, I say there is a pattern... And I didn't even mention all the flash drives I've had go bad. |

eugenebmw, more to the point in this video are the economics involved in chasing the Green Grift. China may be forced to begin open hostilities with the west to keep their homeland in control. We have seen this before.
Here is a interesting article dealing with Germany's economy That link with this video. Germany is about to have its worst year yet economically 1/7/2024 Germany, Europe’s largest economy, is on the cusp of what may be its most challenging year yet. Germany’s economic woes are multi-faceted. The nation is currently facing an energy crisis exacerbated by the Ukraine conflict and its aftermath, significantly impacting its gas supply. This crisis has placed immense pressure on the manufacturing sector, a cornerstone of the German economy. The situation is further compounded by global economic headwinds, including a downturn in demand and challenges in the electric vehicle industry, where Germany lags behind competitors like China’s BYD Co. and Tesla. The country’s infrastructure and bureaucratic hurdles have also played a part in dampening economic growth. Germany’s approach to transitioning to climate-friendly energy and its reliance on off-balance sheet funding methods have been met with legal challenges, adding to the uncertainty. Moreover, the government’s constitutional borrowing limit has hamstrung its ability to inject significant fiscal stimulus into the economy. This is evident in the German VDA auto lobby’s report showing a significant decline in passenger car production. The Bundesbank projects only a modest growth of 0.4% for this year https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/mark...ly/ar-AA1mA63o |

You just need a bigger fireplace than can fit the whole car in. It will keep you warm for a long time cuz we all know how long a EV car will burn.

I think it is called James Bond option. Self destroy and it is free of charge. Handy feature to have when you are charging your EV cars in public. No one dare to steal your car. The best protection for car but not your money

Now we are expecting a lithium solid state battery to provide energy density that gives somewhere between 400 to 600 miles range per charge and recharges in 5 to 10 minutes. But nothing written so far discusses the manufacturing cost curve and what the $/kWh will start at and where and when the curve flattens out. All for a battery with much higher performance. On top of what is the necessary charging infrastructure required to charge such a battery. But poof! the magic battery tech will happen and make ICEV obsolete. Industry hasn't even figured out how to mass produce the solid-state battery architecture, let alone knows what the costs are. Last edited by Efthreeoh; 01-08-2024 at 07:57 AM.. |
