I wasn't saying that you get the money by being lucky The difference is that no matter how much I sacrifice I will not make that money in Finland very soon. Even the vice presidents of my corporation don't make 150.000 euros a year (= 240.000 dollars), and I have a long way to go to be on their level. The pay in Finland just is much smaller than here. And partly that is because education is free and a lot of people have university degrees. When you graduate, you most probably don't have more than 10.000 euros or less of loan to pay for your studies, but you have a lot of competition for the jobs that are out there.

And to continue what I just posted - I have sacrificed a lot. Coming here being one of the biggest ones but even before that. I worked after school when others partied (OK, I did party too ), I've spent summers in different cities in Europe and Finland away from my friends to get better experience, I have travelled a lot in my job and again missed out on lot of things...
They are my own choices, so not complaining in that sense. Make much more money than any of my friends do, even when comparing to what my salary was in Finland. Is it worth it, I don't know. Some day I might regret going through all this and ending up being bitter and alone, but with a nice car

My wife is a teacher and it's not easy teaching kids. My cousin is a NJSP and he works 12 hour days. Same goes for firemen and construction workers. I guess if you aren't making a bucket load of cash a year your job is worthless. |

No you don't. You sound a lot like me There is nothing wrong in taking pride over what you have accomplished in your own life with your own hard work. I know some people hate me for showing off with my car and the money I make and talking about it (not very common in Finland to talk about your salary, people are very modest and talk down on themselves and the stuff they own, to avoid jealousy). But I know nothing was given me easily and i have worked my ass off for this and I am proud of myself. If someone doesn't like it, it is their problem

my wife was never into teaching for the money....she just loved teaching. she was recruited by lots of firms when she graduated but then decided to get her masters in education instead. and it wasnt for the summers off. my brother in law on the other hand is becoming teacher just to have the summers off. he quit his job in business just to become a teacher
