Naw. Most of us don't care. Our intent is not to slow down the reasonable flow of traffic, that's why you'll often observe us exit the freeway only to get right back on.
"No faster than safe, and I'm driving safely" is what I err, my friend heard in a drivers school one Saturday

That ambush in LA today. Why is there video of CHP officer arriving on scene and THEN throwing a vest over his head?

That is the TAC vest. I do that too. I don't wear rifle plate carrier vests unless it's in response to some sort of tactical call. That officer still had his other vest on under his uniform.

I was thinking someone's in trouble when that video came out

I also initially saw rapid muzzle flash and thought these guys weren't even ducking. It was a flashing side marker on a patrol vehicle

That's pretty funny.

Here's my rifle plate carrier vest. I have AR-15 mag pouches on the front and I've since added some additional stuff to it.

How the equipment has changed and got much better. I know, old guy here...when I first got on the job we were issued a S&W .38 pencil barrel revolver, and 6 rounds of semi wad cutter. I went out and bought a number of speed loaders and extra ammo. A few years later we were issued early Kevlar body armour, 2 panels in front and back, very heavy and hot. We were issued a plastic flash light with D cell batteries. Just garbage. I spent money and good a good flashlight for the day and was always looking for better equipment to make my job easier and to give me any advantage I could. I remember some guys refusing to spend any extra money on equipment. They felt the department should issue it.

I remember when we transitioned to Glock 22, what a difference that made in the outcome of police shootings. We went from standing in front of a paper target just trying to get your rounds to qualify to doing a great transition course and more tactical type of shooting.

Did I mention it's good to be retired.

Things have definitely changed. The departments issue cuffs, Sam Browne duty belt, holster, duty weapon, OC spray, PR24 baton, heavy jacket, rain jacket/pants, radio, Kevlar vest, two Class-A uniforms, etc., but we end up purchasing our own vests (…both Kevlar and plate carrier), expandable baton, additional uniforms, etc. etc. We are expected to return everything the department provided to us at the time of retirement or we will be charged for it. Due to that mandate, we keep a bin full of the stuff that must go back.

Sounds about right, with regard to weapons, we were/are only permitted to carry issued equipment, and it's all standardized, ASP expandable batons etc. If you are part of a special unit you may get issued more or different weapons. I was part of the Public Order Unit (riot police) for a decade. We were issued 26" straight baton, flex cuffs etc If you were in an investigative office you could carry a smaller frame Glock pistol. Although the dept have loosened up on things like external carriers for body armour, duty belts etc.

Mat time ….department force refresher today.

P.S. Admittedly, after a review of the newest law changes regarding force, it makes me even less motivated to be out here.

I have to believe that if Buffalo was in a carry state and if there was an armed resource officer or teacher in Uvalde, both of those heartbreaking shootings would have been brought to an end before so many were killed.

I agree! The threat could've been neutralized much earlier.

Are most cops aware of 1st Amendment Auditor's and what do they think about them as a whole?

I would wager that officers working in big cities or large populous states are keenly aware because we deal with them often. Rural law enforcement personnel may not be as familiar. Those 1st amendment auditors are a joke. A few are knowledgeable, but most are not. It takes many, many LEO contacts to find one they can outwit……and usually it's involving some lesser known local ordinance (…e.g. whether or not skateboarding is prohibited, etc.). It's rarely ever on a search & seizure/4th amendment issue because that's the bread and butter of this profession. We remain aware of changes involving the 4th amendment.

There were two armed officers who failed to stop the Uvalde shooter, if current stories are accurate.

Article on this subject (re: "...if there was an armed resource officer or teacher in Uvalde, both of those heartbreaking shootings would have been brought to an end...") in my local news website....I'm not posting this as a for/against stance, just for informational purposes:

He was stopped by a Border Patrol Agent who was on scene.

Yeah I read that one officer was unsuccessful in stopping the guy. I have not read anything in regards to how that confrontation played out. I imagine those details will come out eventually.

What really irritates me is all the signs that this dude was off his rocker and capable of doing something horrible, yet no one did anything about it. It's like he was intentionally trying to get someone to notice what he was about to do. Students are coming forward and releasing message exchanges with him that would have made me immediately notify the police.

Correct...eventually. But, according to news stories he did encounter a guard and they became "engaged", but regrettably that did not stop him from taking 21 innocent lives. The way I read it, he had barricaded himself in a classroom with those kids and teachers, and only after the carnage stopped, did police and the border patrol agent manage to break in and kill him:

"The suspect was immediately engaged outside the building as he approached the school by a Uvalde Independent School District police officer, who was shot by the suspect, the sources said.

After that, the suspect entered the school, barricaded himself in a classroom and allegedly opened fire, killing 18 students, who were mainly third- and fourth-graders, as well as one teacher...
" Note that the information has since been updated to 19 kids and 2 teachers.

"There, he traded gunfire with Uvalde ISD officer and Border Patrol Tactical Unit agents, a number of whom have children who attend the school, according to the sources. The Border Patrol agents responded to a law enforcement request for assistance.

Investigators are going through ballistics to determine who fired the shot that killed the suspect.
"
Again, I'm not trying to stage a for/against stance here, just reporting facts as I understand them...

You do realize that we don't just go running into barricaded situations, right? On my department we have a whole list of things that need to be completed before we even attempt to enter.

Yes, unfortunately law enforcement is reactive and the laws are written that way. I wish we could take preemptive action, but doing so will land us in prison (…especially with the socio-political anti-law enforcement climate we are in now). Every year more and more laws are passed that castrate law enforcement.
