Looks like we have reached that point in the evolution of a thread on EVs where we need to think of the children and abortion is being discussed. Is this the end?

Revealed: Two electric buses caught fire in garage blaze two years before today's double decker blast - sparking fears Sadiq Khan's 1,000-strong fleet is at risk amid push to make all of London's buses 'zero-emission' by 2034
11 January 2024 | Updated: 06:55 EST, 12 January 2024
Fears are growing that the London Mayor's 1,000-strong fleet of electric buses could also be at risk after a huge blast ripped off the back of an Optare Metrodecker 1050 bus in Wimbledon this morning.

MailOnline can today reveal how all Metrodecker 1050s were temporarily taken out of service for safety checks in spring 2022 after two were involved in a fire at Potters Bar bus garage in Hertfordshire.

Two Optare Metrodecker 1050 London electric buses were involved in a major fire at Potters Bar bus garage in Hertfordshire on May 22, 2022 (above) - which destroyed a total of six buses

Lithium Americas: Beware Chronic Lithium Glut And Thacker Pass Project Uncertainty
Jan. 15, 2024
Lithium prices have collapsed by 85% from their peak due to a glut in the market, which seems to be a chronic issue.
Historically, an electric vehicle battery might cost $10K to $20K, accounting for a considerable portion of the overall vehicle price. That said, the cost of lithium batteries has collapsed in recent years as lithium supply has risen extremely rapidly. Lithium production has risen faster than demand, creating a glut that has recently caused many miners to avoid the sector.

With current technology, 22 million tons of lithium should be enough to produce 2.8 billion EVs, twice as many as the 1.4 billion cars on the road today.

I'll get us back to the theme of the thread...

I was just over at the EV forum I hang out at. There is a thread about a dude who lives is Pennsylvania and yesterday he and his wife took a trip in his EV to visit Friends and to go out to dinner. The the distance was 198 miles round trip. His EV's range estimator said the car had 230 miles of charge. He drove it 300 feet and the range dropped from 230 to 190. Short story is he had to charge mid trip and drove back home with just the seat heater on for his wife.

I just don't get this. Really. Buy a $50,000 car that you can't use the heat in the winter and have your wife freeze her ass off? My reply to the thread was he should have used ICE for the trip. Ironic isn't it?

In a sane world his post would have been followed by "Slightly Used EV for Sale" But it's not been a sane world for a long time now.

The wltp(23 degree celsius) and epa (degree celsius) ranges are tested at those temperatures. This is misleading. By default there should be information about range at any temperature explained to the buyer before sale.

Frankly, its not just manufacturers but just the consumers themselves, how can consumers be this laizze faire regarding a sizeable purchase that affects a huge chunk of their lives... I get not everyone are car people, but making the plunge is not a small decision, yet it seems so many dive head first into it only to find out its issues later. EVs are no longer brand new to the market, and cold's effect on range should be common knowledge now

The manufacturers selectively hide the information is not new, and they are just as complicit in the pain of the consumer, but consumers are also responsible for learning themselves and whether it fits their use case, its not a $3.99 bag of chips here..

People under the influence of cults is similar to that we observe in addicts. Typical behaviour for both includes draining bank accounts, neglecting children, destroying relations with family and losing interest in anything except the drug or cult.

Back in 2013 when I was looking in depth at buying a Model S (it was the only EV with a +200-mile range at the time) for my 165-mile round trip daily commute, the most frustrating part was trying to find real test data on winter range degradation. A decade later there is still no official (EPA) test data that provides winter range. The reason is it is significant, on the order of 15% to - 35%. If consumers knew of this information EV adoption would be even less than it is.

This is the problem with EV, the Government is so invested in it, it's Agency that is supposed to inform the consumer purposefully does not provide critical battery efficiency/range information. This is a significant disservice that we as taxpayers should be getting from our government. There is not one iota of consumer protection information about ICE that is not provided on the Maroney window sticker. IMO it is literally falsifying information provided to the Public. People can die from lack of winter range data by running out of electricity on a winter night in sub-freezing temperatures.
