Nice one, DC. Up close and personal. Surprised he didn't fog your lens.

Finally found time to start sorting my backlog from work. Basically stuff that I shot, but wasnt needed by and of my clients. So I never edited it because of time restraints.
This may be one of my favorite shots of the year. It was taken with my Mark I 7D. Cant wait until I get to try out a Mark II! |

I've taken to decanting my wine these days, and I saw this decanter for sale at a winery near Geyserville California (Stryker) and my inner nerd just had to have it

7D MkII at ISO 3200 (large size for critical viewing):
High ISO Buck by dcstep, on Flickr I used DxO Optics Pro's PRIME noise reduction, which does a pixel-by-pixel comparison to de-noise. I roll-off the Default setting considerably, because I think it's too aggressive and destroys some detail, when left to its own devices. I like the end result. BTW, the Raw image was very noisy, despite using +1-2/3EV. The sun was down and this was in the shade, so it was pretty dark and I was considering going to ISO 6400. I think that this shows that the 7D MkII, when combined with a competent NR program, can produce quite nice results at high-ISO. (I never look at the in-camera JPEGs and wasn't really shooting this as a jpeg test, so I can't tell you anything about the camera's internal NR). f/4.0, with focus on the eyes. Hence, the tip of the nose is OOF. Dave

Another 7D MkII, high-ISO shot from last night. This one's ISO 6400, taken when twilight was almost totally gone:
Coyote At ISO 6400 by dcstep, on Flickr Lots of noise showed in the Raw file, so DxO's Optics Pro PRIME NR gets much of the credit for cleaning up the shot substantially, without crushing detail. Looks like my focus was actually slightly in front of the coyote, on that brown grass. (I was struggling with AF because it was so dark that I couldn't see in my viewfinder clearly and even the preview screen was ambiguous).

Aroooo!
That is a great shot Dave. The subject is more important to me than it being technically perfect. I have a couple from last weekend that are in the same boat, taken right at dusk, and yes if viewed at 100% are pretty grainy, but with a little pp, they are more than acceptable to print up to 11x14 or so, even with a significant crop. |

Thanks Ed. I think my high-ISO buck shot might look pretty good as is, printed up to around 30". It's 3648-pixel on each axis. I'm still learning DxO's new PRIME NR module, but I've been might impressed.

Talking about high ISO, I took a snapshot of my car and was surprised to see how little noise there were despite ISO 10000 with my Canon 6D.
