hmm, I can talk to one of the head mechanics there, you shouldnt have any issues with it voiding out your warranty, there just out to make money off you, but then again its weird that they now dont want to do it

Maybe its just a case of a saleperson promising without checking? Although if its OEM and installed by a dealership, why would it void warranty again?

Yeah it kinda sucks but its one of those things that maybe should have been in writing.

I realize this is probally really not helpful to the op but just a lesson for all of us.

no idea either, i would HIGHLY recommend going somewhere else, or calling up BMW NA and complaining, unless the license plate version isnt a OEM unit, but even if you install it and nothing happens to your electrical system on your car they cant void your warranty necessarily

If they did do any type of voiding it would be towards the electrical system, But like you said even than, if its an option the factory offers and a BMW stealership installs it how can they void your existing warranty? Somethings not right....

Yes, for me personally this is definitely a lesson in getting it in writing. I do believe this is a case of the sales rep promising without checking and as for the warranty, they are not saying it'll be voided outright. This is the line I've been given "You would maintain your warranty as long as anything you install does not interference with the normal operations of the car."

My interpretation of that line is that everytime I bring the car in, they would make sure what ever that I've installed hasn't interfered or cause any issue. Hence my warranty coverage would be determined case by case vs being covered outright. I asked if my interpretation was correct and I was told yes over the phone.

I guess I would understand if I'm trying to install aftermarket parts, but since the beginning I've stresses repeatly to the dealership I'm only interested in retrofitting BMW parts which is why I'm confused why my warranty would be in question.

Just to clear a few things:

The car I bought is used. It's an 08 335i and it was missing heated seats and PDC. I asked to have to installed post purchase and insisted that I'm only interested in factory BMW retrofits. I'm not interested in retrofitting aftermarket parts. I was told yes, it could be done. Right after the purchase, I was told that I couldn't do any of those 2 without putting my warranty into question everytime I bring the car in for service.

The dealership is not willing to install the little bumper sensors (factory unit) PDC. I looked around and found this license place holder with PDC (PN: 66 21 0 395 009). Installing this particular license plate holder with PDC will not affect my warranty in any way. I got a quote of $425 labor for the installation and with the part it comes to about $550.

I've read a number of good things about this dealership in E90post and also read about a particular service rep, who recently left the dealership, that has receive a lot of high commendations from some members here. His name eludes me for now. Yes Chris was excellent and unfortunately he wasn't able to provide me with any suitable solutions. Timo was very helpful too.
