Cannot get alignment dialed in, need to replace the control arms...
Might as well upgrade to M3 ones.
Bought carbon filter removed airbox and silicone intake arm. Hopefully that gives the car better pickup.

Just finished replacing the locking mechanism in the left rear door. The lock solenoid failed and sound like a machine gun every time the doors would lock.

And I will admit, you would think that this would be pretty easy. But I seriously would like to meet the German who tied up all those little wires around that mechanism with that non-rip tape and those little butterfly keepers that have a segmented push in that is half an inch long.... and smack them up side the head.

Damn, I was swearing like a drunk sailor trying to get the damn things out.

when it comes to German cars, I stopped wondering what goes through their heads. Keeping things simple is just not norm when it comes to engineering car parts

Scored a 3IM manifold at a pick and pull for $25. Someone had already taken it loose to get the starter motor. 5 mines of taking the hoses and harness off and I feel like I hit the jackpot!

New front brakes and rotors. My dealer keeps bugging me about doing it for $969.61 after my last recall. I did it for $225.78.

All new shocks and struts. I am just shy of 100k and they were all toast. Such a major difference. Not too hard of a job either.

Oil Change/Brake Flush at the dealership. It wasn't pretty. I almost got raped on my way out.

getting the front bumper repainted AGAIN (but with a different painter). Second time is a charm, I guess.

Not sure how anyone can paint the wrong color code when you have the car in front of you for comparison. Incompetent people should quit their jobs.

Adjusted the rear parking brake, cleaned the hub, and added some anti-seize.

Replaced front pads and rotors with BMW OEM rotors and Textar pads. A shame since the pads on the car were almost new and the rotors were still far from the minimum thickness. Unfortunately, the outside driver side pad had a nasty crack that had scored and grooved the rotor, so . . . Took it out to bed in the pads and was pleased with the smooth, solid feel as opposed to the shimmying from the cracked pad and damaged rotor.

How could you possibly be surprised at the cost of these widely publicised and understood items when replaced by the dealerships?

It's like the forums, cars and dealerships are new to you...but they aren't.

C'mon with these videos.

With my e46 M54 330i battery replacement a few years ago was $250 or less at the same dealership. Spark plugs even less.

I’m used to dealership abuse since 2004 and 2 previous BMW but the e90 manages to take the cake!

In my 2 years owning my e90 I got quoted $175 for air filter replacement (aka the intake silencer scam), $1200 for two tires, $1300 for ofhg gasket.

It’s insane consider the air filter at the same dealership cost $30 and takes 5 minutes to put it. I paid $500 for all four new tires, the oil gasket is $15 at the dealership and 2 hour labor time ($250) at a shop.
