Nothing broke during January.
Took the 35i for a 'special' drive last weekend as it was nice & sunny, even after nearly 8 years of ownership it still puts a big smile on my face . Am most likely going to be getting an F31 in the spring, so I'll be selling the 35i, hopefully to somebody that won't basterdise it

That's a real shitter, have had a new F1 around 600 miles on it & a Supersport with a few thousand miles on it both destroyed. The F1 was a brick on the M2 & the SS was a pot hole taking out the sidewall, fortunately I had tyre insurance. Well worth £14 a tyre

My bad luck continues, I’ve been chasing a minor oil leak for a few months now and Sunday was the day I’d had enough and started from the top of the block and worked my way down hunting it. Found I had a very minor leak from the oil catch can hose, this was easily fixed and not the cause of what I was looking for, working down the block my rear turbo (pure stage 2 high flow less than a year old) looks to started to leak internally, so off the subframe came again, down pipes off, engine mount off, then the problem! One of the engine mount bracket bolts heads has stripped, tried tapping a smaller external torx bit on but had no joy, looks like I’m going to have to get a professional to come to my house and take it out if the stud extractors that I have just ordered fail.
I’m getting the impression that I’m not supposed to make my trip to the Nurburgring in May, first I hit a pot hole and pop a brand new tyre, now this, what’s next....... |

A bankrupting February!
All started with the NSR wheel bearing, but when the wheel was removed...... No way that nut was coming off in one piece or without damaging the driveshaft. So, new wheel bearing (£31.92), wheel hub (£52.41) and salvage yard driveshaft (£30) ordered. Whilst the backend was in pieces, also had the rear trailing arm bushes (£15) done. And to complete the work, a new set of Goodyear winter tyres (£161.80) Driving out of the garage on Tuesday, i was happy as a pig in shit. Then on the way home from the gym..... Only had the DPF cleaned about 10k miles ago, so pulled the codes. Duff glow plug preventing DPF regens. But before i could get back to the garage for glow plug replacement.....i hit a pothole the next morning. So, a tyre that had been fitted barely 24 hours earlier, with only 80 miles on it, ruined! So, back shopping. Bought a salvage DPF (£211) with only 60k on it just in case a new glow plug didn't resolve the DPF regen / block issue. Few bottles of DPF Cleaner (£12) to keep me moving. New glow plug (£8) Another Goodyear winter tyre (£84). So, total parts spend of £606.13 and labour of £502.

£5.65 for an expansion tank bleed screw & currently 4 days off the road
I gave the 35i a good clean saturday, when I opened the bonnet I could see that there'd been some coolant leaking by the bleed screw on the expansion tank. Initially I thought it'd just be a new washer for the bleed screw, managed to find a suitable washer but when I went to undo the bleed screw the bloody head snapped off leaving the screw still threaded in the tank and this was at 5.40pm so I couldn't order one till Monday I managed to drill into the screw, get a flat head screwdriver in there & tease it out. New bleed screw wasn't due in to Arden BMW until today, with the Nation on shut down I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get hold of the replacement but fortunately the workshop was still open & one of the mechanics got the part for me, even though I had phoned first to check the parts department was open when I arrived an hour later they were closed. Got home, put the new bleed screw in but when I went to start the car it wouldn't turn over & all kinds of warning lights have appeared, battery is totally flat, I hadn't closed the bonnet properly on Saturday & am assuming the car didn't go to sleep when I locked it & it's drained the battery. It's currently hooked up to my battery charger, fingers crossed it'll start up ok in a few hours.

Yay....It lives. Two hours on the charger & it started first press of the button. Took it out for a nice long drive just to make sure the battery's fully charged & that theres no more coolant leaks, all good now

Two hours (inclusive of beer breaks) of my time with Mrs Chappers hair dryer & the rear bumpers looking fairly good now ( well I think so), yes I could have made a better job of it if I'd taken the bumper off but.....I suspect it'll only be a matter of time before the Mrs dings it again

About £200 in getting rid of the factory oil cooler and making my own set up behind the kidney grill. Oil temps are A LOT lower now, even after a fair bit of spirited driving I’m only about 105°!!
