OK after much frustration, I purchased the fsc code, and downloaded the maps, BUT the car still does not prompt me for the fsc code to update the map.
The usb port in the glovebox works as i have transferred music to the hard drive..... Do you think this needs a CIC update ? Any ideas gratefully received Nick |

My engine was not running and the car did not shut down. It was not even on accessory. Insert the key, Navi turns on, wait 30-45 secs, then insert the usb stick, enter code and wait. To minimize battery drain, I turned all the interior lights and headlights off (0), disconnect my radar detector, and shut the glove box but left the passenger door open just in case. I could have dimmed the navi screen but did not think of it at that time. Last edited by apirumann; 07-06-2020 at 10:24 AM.. |

Here's my current situation. New to me 2009 E92 328i with the CIC.
Per the VIN decoder, has "S609 Navigation System Professional" optioned. Under the navigation version shows "NA / BMW / 1.2.8 / Road Map North America PREMIUM 2009-1". Now I'm stuck on getting the 1b.hex file from the vehicle. I've tried using the "copie_scr.sh" in both that Youtube video and this thread's OP. Tried flashdrives from Lexar, Memorex, PNY, Kingston, and a handful of generics I have around the house. Always in the glovebox USB port, always plugging in after the navigation system fully loads. Tried with the car on and the car off. The previous owner also gave me the service records, and on it's last visit to an independent BWM shop earlier this year lists a line item "Update computer program control unit" - supposing that's a firmware upgrade? Does anyone have a clue what I'm missing here, or am I going to need to buy an e-net cable and do the FTP method? I'd really love to get a more current map, many roads around me are wrong. |

This is my second time around and I can not still get it to work.
Car is a 2007 335 w/ factory CCC (FV75383) CIC unit/swap is from a 2009(A406309) Unit has been coded to the car and working(other than nav obvs which is greyed out) The CIC has C16 firmware on it. This happened last year when I tried the 2018 and 2019 maps and now again this year with the 2020s. When I try to plug in the FSC activation it just gives me invalid code. Any ideas/is there anything obvious that I'm doing wrong? |

Did you download the persistence file via Ethernet to make the 1b.hex file?
Also as I understand it the new CIC must have navigation enabling FSC codes installed that are consistent with the car, not just coding. A transplanted CIC must be updated to correspond to the security descriptors in the target car and the build date of the target (your) car must be changed to at least the date that the CIC usb update first became available... e.g 7/2010. Does your CIC show the check mark? Does the map upload start and does it then wait for the FSC code? |

Not sure what "persistance file" is but I used what was in the "1b.zip" at the start of this thread. (I'm usually better with mechanical stuff that on computers)
I believe when I used ncsexpert to code the CIC in I used the build date of 09/10 (as combox retrofix is in the future) I do not have an emulator so I think script activation is what I need to do first? Where would the CIC show a checkmark? My navigation is greyed out and I cannot get into any part of it in the car. When I put the maps into the glovebox USB I get a message that newer maps are detected. Continue and it asks me to input the FSC code which has always been incorrect |

The 1b.zip file is used to download a data file from your factory set up CIC.
The resulting file will not necessarily correspond to your vehicle as you have a retrofit on a older non supported vehicle. The Generalpersistence file must be obtained using an Ethernet cable as mentioned previously and is more likely to be consistent with your transplanted CIC. The 1b.zip does not work with most transplants. Also the fact that your navigation is not working indicates the CIC has not been "coded" and authorized for your vehicle which might be the bigger problem. An FSC code is required to authorize navigation and then a different code is needed for the map itself. The code generators do not work with emulators too. |

I have the same issue as neilvan
2007 e90 - ccc with retrofitted CIC (2015 maps). Invalid FSC code when I tried to update because it is retrofit. I received advice from a BMW enthusiast who said that we should be careful about updating Maps on retrofit CIC because the installer may have used different methods to setup the CIC such as script activation or emulator activation. They advised me that depending on on the activation method updating via USB might break the navigation entirely. Anyone have any clarification on this? |

Other than an emulator it looks like we have 2 options: virginize+ script activation or a patcher. Patcher is easiest but needs C1A firmware which means Ill need an update since I'm C16. Need an ICOM cable too but those are lots of $$ for a genuine one. But yes I "coded" it to my vehicle. Just adding CIC into the VO and then updating the modules for the CIC is all that I've done so far Last edited by neilvan; 07-20-2020 at 09:30 AM.. |

Virginizing will produce the best results long term and permit you to apply map updates at will.
As you have discovered VO coding is not sufficient to get things working. There are tools that may help... Hint: look for "software help yourself" here, but I have not used the FSC patcher/generator included there. |

I'm not super computer tech but I can get by and follow instructions. Or is it better to pay someone to do all that for me? I can build engines and full cars but my father asked for the CIC retrofit on his; so here I am lol Also that "software help yourself" is absolute gold! thanks! |
