Thanks to everyone for all the useful info in this thread! I installed the eBay camera and module plus had it coded in about 3 hours (E93).

My setup worked fine for almost a year but now stopped working.

The camera started going fuzzy a few weeks ago and now there is just a black screen.

Do you think my camera or emulator has become faulty?

because you mentioned that it started fuzzy, it really means that it would be your camera or video cable as the video signal does not even goes through the emulator. The emulator only send the CAN message to display the image.

It is most likely that your camera just died, either because water infiltrated or just because it wanted to quit!

Thanks. Hope your right. I will disconnect the camera and plug another AV input to see if that works.

The reason I was thinking it maybe the emulator, when I put it in reverse, the black screen does not come on straight away, there is a lag of around 1.5 seconds.

You are right about connecting another video source to try. The only reason I opted for the camera as a suspect is because you mentionned that it started to get fuzzy. A problematic emulator would not do that. As for your delay, it could also be something with the emulator but I think that you should address the camera issue first then see if you have an another problem.

Did a quick test today and it looks like the camera is faulty. Plugged in another video source which worked straight away.

Looks like I need to buy another camera. On the plus side, it's much cheaper than a new emulator!

How long did the camera last you? Is it wired to only power up when in reverse, or is the power to the camera always on?

I'm concerned about the longevity of my camera because it is always powered on when the car is running... so that I can view it even when driving forward (using my aftermarket video-enabled HU).

Lasted around 8 months, died in its first winter.

It's not always on, wired to the emulator so comes on when selecting reverse or when pdc button is pressed.

Thanks for sharing. Had to put RVC_CIC to wert_21 for my European e91 2011 (Belgian imported to Netherlands).

To be honest, I spend more than 40 hours in total to get it work. First I bought the wrong emulator... but, its one of my first codings and I am ready to build it in next Saturday.

Do you actually have any experience of this system? Thought not.

Yes the Bimmer Tech one is better but there is no way it's worth paying 7 times the price for.

Wiring Dot Diagram

I was bored and made a quick markup of the wiring as the link OP posted is dead.

The key is to have the brains to know when "cheaping out" on well researched and vetted products at a discounted price will result in good value, vs. just buying name-brand stuff all the time (which isn't failure proof either)

But it's ok, to each their own. I'd rather research and spend wisely, than just spend in blind faith.

Don't worry about us, you keep doing you.
