BMW windshields have a UV shield built into them and the end result is a more brittle glass than a standard windshield, it's a trade off.

They have a rain sensor built in it so it's specific to BMW's.

Do you think the 'Clear protective covering' (available as an accessory) help alleviate this problem? I have quite a few on my current non-BMW car and would hate to have it on the E91.

This post is too long to scan thru. I just discovered this today and not sure what it means. I get into my 06 e90 with key fob in hand. I accidentally pressed the lock button on the key fob. All doors locked as I am sitting in the driver seat. I pushed key fob into the slot and all 4 doors unlock. Question is why? (putting on flaming outfit )

One thing that I found cool is that when using an Ipod connected through AUX using a Monster ICharger, when you turn off the engine, it automatically puts the Ipod into "pause" mode. So when you start the car again the song is right where you left off. At least this is true with my 8GB Nano. (You have to press the pause button again to start it.)

It's a great feature especially when on the highway trying to overtake someone. No need to touch the shifter, just push through the resistance point and you'll find yourself revving up on a lower gear. Do it again, and you'll drop yet another...

You probably already knew about this feature, but I just found out about it. Cool!
Gee. Just like the 67 Buick I learned to drive on.

That is because it shuts off the power to the aux plug.

However, if you are using "radio read" mode, it won't shut the power and will kill your battery if you forget to unpug the iPod. See my earlier post somewhere back in this thread, er... novel.

Understood, I just didn't realize that this automatically paused the Ipod. I like it.

[QUOTE=ScheerSpeed;636364-key in trunk thing does not work, i had to call my dad to drive 30 min to bring my extra key to me (he called me an idiot)

-first aid kit has everything but band-aids (at least mine never had any)

-someone can steal your car with a skeleton key ( my car was missing one day and i found out that my friend stole my skeleton kay (and he wont give it back) and used the valet key in the glovebox to start the car and steal it for 3 hours

-under the rear seats there are these air canister looking things connected to the seatbelt holder thing. (no clue what they are for)

-having the clutch depressed at a stop is actually burning up the clutch (clutch plates never release from each other completely, there is always a bit of friction between them)

[/QUOTE]

Yes, that is what the key is for. Anyone who steals your car is not your friend. Call the police next time.

It sounds like you are looking at seatbelt pre-tensioners on the rear belts. They snug up the belts in a collision where airbags are deployed.

When a dry clutch is fully disengaged, the plates are not rubbing. Different story for a wet clutch, like you have in most motorcycles.

Yeah, that is poor. That is not a 'friend' but some guy that likes to take advantage of you and laugh about it. Simple theft. DO you really need this guy?

I tried this on my M5 (lock from the outside, press unlock button, pull driver's door handle twice). The door did, in fact, unlock and open; however, the alarm was still triggered.

It took about two or three minutes for me to uncross my eyes. (DAMN, that alarm is loud, especially when echoing around in a parking structure!)

I can conclude that at some point between the build of my '92 525i and my '00 M5, they changed the operation of the locks!

that's an ipod feature, not a car feature.

This may have been covered before, but I couldn't find it:

If you don't connect your seatbelt (not that I would ever do that ) you will get the large and the small warning icons on your instrument panel....and the chime will ring exactly 50 times, and then STOP (ah...peace and quiet). Only the small warning icon will remain and the chime will remain silent until you restart the car and fail to connect your seatbelt again.

cruise control "let off the gas" when i made a hard right/left turn - this is with the cruise control package that has braking function and sees cars in front, i would assume it works on all cruise control types though. but i don't know.

i've set one of my steering wheel buttons so that it makes iDrive display the phone book when i press the button. pressing the button while in the Entertainment menu displays the phone book. then pressing the same button again once in the phone book, it went back to the Entertainment menu.

For those who keep their loose change in the front ashtray, if you drop a coin in the gap between the open lid and the ashtray itself, it will be really difficult to retrieve. But the lost coin will magically reappear under the ashtray insert after a few driving cycles.

I didn't double checked I just took his word for it. I do not have the time to confirm this.
