100 miles a day for the new commute. Feels good to actually stretch the cars legs, but I’m starting to sniff out the wallow, old shocks and crap base seats. In due time...

Right now, I just filled in the tank. I haven't been driving it a lot these days since I was abroad for a couple weeks, but I came back and the thing works like a charm!
But now, I'm conflicted. I have been considering doing some slight nerdy tuning on it ; more precisely, adding a couple small decals representing the tactical signs of a WW2 Focke-Wulf 190 fighter - the engine was made by BMW as well after all! On one hand, it would be something small and rather obscure, so it wouldn't be as obnoxious as other attemps as tuning, but on the other hand, it may ruin the car for everyone who isn't able to identify WW2 plane markings, which is, pretty much every normal person. |

It was something that I had put on my "to-do" list a while ago so I had been slowly looking into it over time.
For a while I was thinking of just going all out to Ohlins R&T Coilovers. But, realized that this is my daily driver that gets put on a track 3-5 times a year. It's never going to be a full on track car and for that reason buying a set of coilovers was overkill. I settled on a set of Koni Yellows and decided to just going go for a full on suspension refresh while I was at it. Replacing my tie rods as well and already have TRW M3 Control Arms. They should be here tomorrow.

So last night I finally did the Mhd stage 1 tune...on my test run I made it all the way to 3000 rpm before the car started surging and the SES light came on. I limped it back home and when I parked it was idling rough. I flashed back to stock and the rough idle didn’t go away. Read the codes and it said misfire on cylinder 5.
So...today I was gonna change the spark plugs anyway and before I did that I swapped the coils on 5 and 3 and reread the codes...misfire on 3. So...long story short I swapped the plugs and oredered a set of eldor coils. They should be here on Saturday.... I was planning on doing my FMIC today but I didn’t want to do it until I have the car running right again so as not to change too many things at once...so I went to work on my bumper with Dr. ColorChip instead... Oh yeah...I also installed my new front vanity plate... Last edited by Bimmer_Engineer; 06-19-2018 at 05:21 PM.. |

It is best to get some runs in early in the day because by noon there is just too much traffic. K9Leader Red cars are faster. |

Thank you! I should mention that Chris at StrutMonkey helped talk me through it and was wonderful to work with!

Checked the coolant level in the expansion tank. I was about 16-24oz low. So, I added it in, put the car on a battery charger & started the water pump bleed procedure. Checked the coolant level once the 12 min was up & then did the bleed procedure again.
N54's Run hot, as most of us know. Coolant is 50% distilled water. So, it's natural to be down some after 1 year, or in my case around 13-15,000 miles. I do this once a year in June. Better safe than sorry. |

Those plugs looked foul, certainly time to swap. Hope it runs smooth now.

My first observation was 3 coil packs of one kind, 3 of another and if there were any issues I'd say have 6 of the same. Just trying to learn, I looked up fouled spark plugs. |

Suspension work....replaced the stock shocks/struts with STAGG SHS shock/struts with my Eibach Pro Springs. Found the STAGGs on eBay and I am pleased with the results for the price....very cost effective for a “sport shock/strut. Install was smooth and fitment on point 👍
