My 2011 328i xDrive now has 165,000 miles. I’ve had it since it was almost 2 years old with 18,000 miles.. I bought it as a CPO.. the car runs perfectly with no issues at the moment except for a baseball sized dent on the passenger quarter panel which annoys the f$&@k out of me to no end. I do most of my work myself with a plethora of Harbor Freight tools and a BMW specific scan tool. Over the past 8 months I’ve replaced coil packs, plugs, all lifetime fluids, all arms and ball joints in the front, in the rear I just replaced all three upper arms last month, this past spring the water pump , some radiator hoses and TStat were replaced as a preventative.. I had to be on borrowed time with 150k on the original.. at about 130k I replaced all shocks and struts with Bilstein B4’s and along the way I’ve replaced plastics and other various doodads that inherently break on the interior in these cars. Just this past weekend I replaced a noisy alternator pulley and swapped out the voltage regulator while I had the alternator out ..I also replaced the other pulley, tensioner and belt as well. and I keep the car in immaculate condition in and out.
While it was still covered under CPO I had them replace valve cover, OFHG and oil pan gasket as well as a new differential at around 95k.. the car is still %100 leak free which amazes me. I see me taking this to 250k as it runs and drives like something that’s like only a year old with 10k miles. I think the key to owning these cars is you have to be on top of leaks and other weak design flaws like plastic cooling system parts, bushings and preventing the serpentine belt from derailing, use good judgement with the parts and fluids you use and dealing with the usually easy to fix interior things that break and wear out like peeling plastics. It’s good to use quality interior care products like Einzet Cockpit Premium, Gumi Pledge and Aerospace 303.. never use cheap over the counter armorall crap in these cars.. the interior will degrade and peel overnight. Being an OCD person really helps 😂 Last edited by shanes; 11-11-2018 at 07:34 PM.. |

Just hit 180,000 Miles today. It’s in amazing condition with just maintenance and a couple of the usual cheap diy repairs. I need to keep it going because I love the straight 6, manual transmission, and hydraulic steering. It’s going to be hard to replace.

2011 328i xDrive M-Sport with 107k miles... I thought I was high mileage!
Work that was done under warranty engine threw a rod (replaced under original warranty at 49k miles) While they were doing the engine replacement, I went to pick up the car and the battery was dead. They replaced that under original warranty as well (49k miles) passanger window regulator (original warranty) starter replaced (extended warranty) thermostated replaced (extended warranty) oil sensor replaced (extended warranty) work that I did myself I replaced the spark plugs and the coils (around ~90k miles, parts around $300 for everything) driver window master switch ($150 for the part, I did it myself) upper radiator hose and expansion hose to upper radiator hose (parts around $150 and I replaced them myself). Also did the coolant flush at this time. various brake pad jobs, I never replaced the rotors. I will do the rotors on my next brake job, probably in the summer around 115-120k miles. The car brakes great with original rotors (I dont know if rotors were changed before I bought the car, I bought it with 36k miles) I did the power steering fluid change myself work I paid for; o2 sensor, bank2 sensor 2 ($125 for labor and whatever the list price was for the part) front and rear differential fluid, transfer case fluid, automatic transmission filter and fliud change (all together was about 5-700, I was ripped off, but I did not have the tools at the time I did this, was around 70k miles) Oil changes at dealer every 7-10k miles. I usually get $80 coupon on their website, and this is really cheap to me given that its about once a year, vs $30 for every 3k miles I used to do on my previous car. front tire bushings (I dont remember how much I paig for them) What I need to do as preventative; Water pump and thermostat. I know my thermostat was replaced at 72k, but most of the kits now are pretty cheap that include water-Pump+tstat. So Ill just buy them both and have my indy guy do it. Planning to do this in the summer, when I get some more money in my pocket EDIT: by far my most expensive maintenance was repairing all of the bent and cracked rims... BMW OEM rims are terrible. Theyre 18" and terribly built... The rims I have are the 192M(SA2MF) EDIT2: I replaced the TPMS receiver behind the wheel well in the rear passanger, but apparently it needs to be "coded" which Im not willing to pay for more than $50 for ($287 for the part) Last edited by mastarron; 01-18-2019 at 03:05 PM.. |

My 07 328i has 247k mi. Aside from routine maintenance, the radiator and several coolant hoses were replaced. Water pump (preventative), a couple of the common gaskets, some new suspension components (on the advice of my mech), and some new interior bits (steering wheel, shift knob, parking brake handle, floor mats) that were worn out. And a used radio (display went bad).

My 2008 e91 (N52 and GM 6L45 steptronic) has 272,628 miles. Blackstone Lab Analysis says engine and trans still look great. Engine OCI every 5,000, trans 30,000 though Blackstone says I can extend it further. Usual wear and tear (gaskets, wp, injectors). First eight years was commuter car, last two have been my DD and weekend track car. Did 28 track days in the past 36-months.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Efthreeeoh: my oil consumption is about one quart every 5000 miles. I use Motul X-cess 8100 5w40.
