The prices I've found on the Birds website are substantially more - I can't find anything for £1200 incl. install.

Most (i reckon well over 90%) of supposed 'tuners' buy the actual maps off a large software house (dimsport, ipro, bosch) there are several available to download for each model of car, all your 'tuner' does to this map is tweak afr and boost to match what you are after, the adjustment tables are preset to certain limits so theres not really a lot to do for your 'custom' remap.

The trick is finding out who's software is the best/most reliable, which is dependant on your understanding of what 'best' is (ie. most power/torque/economy.

DMS are probably the company i would plump for, even though i think they are tied up with a european software house, Geoff (if he still runs DMS) was and still is highly regarded in the VAG/Porsche scene as one of the best out there for the past twenty years.
Its a melting pot (no pun) but i despair when i see £200 etailers flogging software to ill-informed consumers as 'custom' performance software.

When I spoke to Birds (I think, it was them - Norwich way? Only UK importer anyway) the Hartage warranty doesn't apply in the UK as it's a BMW warranty that's offered in DE, not a Hartage warranty.

So, to get a warranty in the UK, it'd have to be BMW UK provided, and they won't provide one because they don't approve the kit.

As I understand it.

DMS Sounds a good option (warranty), list price is expensive compared to others in the BMW scene, but not compared to the best of the VAG world. I'm like you, it's worth paying for the most reliable with the best backup and customer support when (if) things go wrong. You know I'm talking about small issues here (MAF, Various sensors etc) rather than Melted Turbos. I have a copy of the DMS warranty, it's a bit open but the guy I spoke with (Mike Cooper) seems Honourable.

Big issue for me is that they only place you can get it down is waaay down south, unless you pay for them to travel up to you. What happens if I need a reflash? What happens if something goes wrong and I quickly need to have it flashed back, for, err, whatever reason... They need more distributors.

One of the best indicator of who writes their one maps and who buys someone else's is how quickly they get a model on their application list. Indicates they know what they're doing. Revo had code for the new Cupra before the 1st car had been delivered in the UK, and look how they sorted Warren's S3 after he'd paid a fortune for the MTM map...

Just wish Revo did BMWs (and not just Kev on his own). Now THERE's customer support...

I don't think either of them do the newer 2.0D though - I've not got them on my list, anyway. Not sure I'd be giving AMD any money, whether it's via Shaun or not.

RS Tuning have the e90 listed, and launched switching the other day, but not for the e90 (pm'd him - "possibly in a few months"). Dunno whose code they use.

I've got this P-Box to fit, anyway.
