^Man you guys are quick.

As some of you already know these covers (with the exception of the first few black ones that get ordered) will have to come out of Germany initially. They are not Euro parts, there is just a temporary availabilty issue. -JD

JD, I replied to your email...

I do indeed need the black piece not the gray one as orignally ordered. How do I follow up with the change and will I get the piece sooner?

I think of a single reason I need these outlets, but with a great DIY write up like this and <$20 in parts, it would be a crime not to do it!

Awesome job!

I just heard from JD @ Crown wrt covers...

It seems that the beige covers turned up complete with sockets and plugs, as Calvino had received, while the gray and black ones did not (i.e. just the cover, plugs and sockets an optional $46 value option?). Its a suspected production run discrepancy (i.e. possibly Calvino and other beige interior owners lucked out ). Part numbers and prices remain correct.

Now JD has been on the horn with BMW Technical and BMW AG and they insisted (as well) that the gray and black ones should come complete with sockets and plugs

To cut a long story short, JD is in the midst of sorting this issue out to ensure that the ordered parts (by us) will come with the appropriate 12V sockets and plugs (just as Calvino had received) so that we don't have to pay extra (we can't have Calvino have all the fun now, can we? )

Again, much credit to JD and the Crown team for looking out for us and our wallets

Thanks for the update and communication.

JD @ Crown is phenomenal. I mistakenly ordered the gray cover and he changes it to black based on my VIN, knowing that I have terra interior and need a black cover. We lucked out in finding crown auto....and especially JD.

Any updates on this matter? Has anyone received the Black Cover with the sockets included? I have the cover ordered from a local dealer and it is due in soon - just want to make sure on the socket issue before I pay. It does seem strange that the cover would come with the sockets since on the parts list the cover costs less than just ONE socket.

Thanks.

Has anyone received this piece?
My stealer tells me that part # is only for the cover with no sockets.
Looking at the diagram, that seems correct.
there is another part # for the sockets.
what is not clear is if the part # for the socket is for
one socket or two.
It also seems you need to buy the plugs. Those seem to be under
$2 each.
Note that you can use the one from inside the center console.
so you only need to buy one.

On a related subject, I bought the sunglass tray which means I will lose
the cigarrete lighter socket. I'm thinking of using that power source to
feed the rear outlets.
Calvino tapped into the wires that feed the center console outlet.
I have my Ipod plugged into that outlet.
I just don't know if that outlet could be overloaded once I use the rear
outlets for a dvd player and something else. I'm just playing safe.

That just gives you the excuse to go out and get the ipod interface.

Are the new outlets wired in series or parallel? I need to look at this DIY more carfeully now...

I have my eyes on the ipod interface, but, around $600 for it, is way too much for me.
waiting on someone to
1) buy the kit ($250)
2)successfully do a DIY
3) and then just go to the stealer for software update. ($100 or so)

That should cut cost at least $200

Did I say Stealer... AJ... what about the Stealers?
they'll come back next week... just like the Redskins.

Yeah... rough game last night... Im actually going to the Pitt/Cincy game next weekend (hence why I need to leave town around 4 or 5)...

Im going to wait a while on the ipod kit. Maybe it will be a christmas present to myself. As crazy as it seems, I think I might try to do the install myself. I also am waiting on a few others to try it out first.

There were at least 5 orders mentioned in this thread.

Mine has not arrived yet.
