I immediately thought about moving the #1 egt sensor to pre turbo and leaving the #2 post turbo when I was first wrenching in there. However, we need to confirm with a tuner that doing so isn't going to shoot ourselves in the foot without a retune. If the ECU uses the #1 temp sensor for de-rating power with excessive measured temps, and we suddenly give it ~300-400*F more than it normally sees, I foresee a depressing result until the tables are re-scaled in the software.

If you want to make such a thing, I'm sure I can whip something up in the mill/lathe.

Yep, we are making this too difficult. I think I'll take you up on your offer as I can use an external probe and data logger to get the job done. Maybe even share the setup so a couple of us can get data from different setups.

TDIwyse, you have any interest in this project? PM me.

Whitebread, thanks for being interested in this. And I agree with your concerns.

YES [I about dislocated my shoulder raising my hand this fast].

However, work/family commitments are piling up, and my bandwidth is limited. Especially after the intake/DPF Press sensor to MAF reading implementation in Torque exercise that was more involved than expected...

Aww, come on and admit it. You loved the challenge
Besides, isn't that pretty much par for the course with the 335d

It gets even easier guys. Exhaust pressure sensor is a banjo bolt right?

Whitbread, if you beat me to it (and I have other projects going on here so it sounds like you will ) Just make a simple bung for the spare EGT probe. Weld the bung onto the banjo bolt and drill a hole through the center for the probe diameter (Check protrusion, of course). Done

Yes ^ 0.5 ~ ((Yes/(Yes/(((Yes/Seed)+Seed)/2)))+(Yes/(((Yes/Seed)+Seed)/2)))/2

So, we probably should talk about the details of this offline. Iaknown and I have discussed this idea before. He reminded me recently that creating an adapter to use the manifold pressure port is the best option, so that both pressure and temperature could be measured from that location. The temps could be logged using Torque Pro, but it would make more sense to use Testo.
But, I don't remember if you have the setup to make this happen. Are you running a DPF delete setup?
I only have the EGR blocked. DPF and the rest of the emissions equipment is intact.

Just realized we really thread-jacked here (not even remotely close LOL). Starting a new thread on the pre-turbo probe....

Then look at the SOI timing on our engines at full load of 20+ degrees.

It's the water that slows down the combustion rate (and methanol's is fast) to keep detonation from happening. It also has to do with the ratio of diesel to methanol. As a greater percentage of methanol is introduced the combustion cycle looks less like typical 2 phase diesel combustion and more like spark ingition with a diesel pilot ignition. High octane doesn't mean an engine cannot detonate. It just means the conditions needed are much harsher.

Methanol detonation in diesels is well documented. For those who wish to know more, I've attached a representative research article. For who are adverse to reading this kind of stuff, skip to the "picture" near the end.
That was report was about straight methanol, not 50/50 blended right ?
