I don't read German, what does this screen really say? Is Suche mean Search? Can someone explain these screens? Where is the results screen? How do you enter the search is there a keypad you click on the letters? If this comes to the US, that would be awesome Last edited by Bimmerforlife; 03-16-2007 at 11:14 PM.. |

Found this on another site: Look at the difference in colors, top is old, bottom is new. It looks so much cleaner and clearer. This is really exciting news, how could BMW hold this news from the public and not tell us they were releasing this.

Something I just noticed look at the times at the bottom of this pic the older Nav on the top has the same time at bottom as the new updated Nav is this photochopped and not really real? Example 21:50 and 22:50

Wow, my laziness has paid off. I actually do have an issue that requires a PROGMAN update to fix, but I just haven't gotten around to asking for the update. Maybe by the time I finally do, we'll be on v26, and the bugs inevitably introduced with v25 will be worked out.

Unless you have the same computers and hook-ups as your SA, you can't. You can, however, make an educated guess based on your build date. For example, I'm pretty sure I have PROGMAN 21 based on the build date of my car. v22 ushered in a new font and some new menus, and I don't have that.

The new software is availabe immediately. It will be standard on new cars and can be upgraded to on old cars through your dealer.

'because...' --> I'd hardly believe that this is the reason for the speedup. I think the visual 'tune up' of the interface is purely aesthetic and has nothing to do with the extra speed. Not programming like a dumbass is more likely to give you great performance improvements than changing a couple of icons and using 2 less colors here and there.

BTW: It is a given fact, that if you turn off the fancy graphics in Windows XP, your machine is faster. More so noticable in Vista. So the idea that the speedup may have been caused by reduced graphic "overhead" is not exactly nonsense. Anways. |

It is a FACT that EVERYONE'S iDrive currently has a problem/bug in the
navigation section. I know that for sure because there is a TSB out for it and dealers WILL upgrade on customer complain basis. The fix is not yet out and was expected in March/April. Personally I will wait for a year or so before I drop by my dealer, show them my existing paperwork about the problem identified a while ago and ask for an upgrade |

you would wait a year? if I had the current Nav I would be in the dealer saying I want the new update as soon as it's available, why wait put up with a slow iDrive for another year? Not me.
To be honest this is unacceptable for iDrive to be slow and lock up it's been an issue now for what years? Finally in 2007 we will get a fix? It's indeed welcome but why are they so late? Something that is so critical in everyday use to the customers should be high on BMW's list of fixes, at the latest they should have fixed it within 1 year of customers complaining about it. At least with the 3 series you can opt for not having iDrive but look at the 5 series, the slowness is on their model too and iDrive is essential for that vehicle. It's like BMW has paid attention to all the other aspects of the car (handling, ride, sport) each year but noone had paid any attention to iDrive "each" year to make it better and better. I guess the cost would be too expensive for BMW to make minor tweaks "each" year to enhance. I'm looking forward to reading more review as owners get their Progman 25 before I order my next BMW because I want a Nav on my next vehicle. |

going to pay for the upgrade. It is what it is - functional but a bit slow. Key word here is functional. On the other hand if you go to the dealer with a real problem/bug they can diagnose, it becomes a whole different story cause everyone with the iDrive has the one I am talking about I had mine upgraded to the latest version about a month ago because the assist managed to disable itself. Things look fine - not as fast as I would have liked but not slower than before. I will wait a year because the software will be more mature |

Hopefully you won't have to wait that long although I understand why you want to. How much does it cost anyway to upgrade if you had to pay for it? Just to have the search by POI might even be worth the cost of the upgrade for those who money is not an concern.

For me it has ALWAYS worked to go to my dealer and just make up a story about crahing here, wierd text characters there, bla bla. Just make something up that sounds reasonable enough and tell them it is something that just happens out of nowhere and is not reproducable. Usually they will take that an upgrade for you.
If not, what has also worked for me, is pay for the upgrade. It was only 80 bucks in my case. |

cool, only 80 bucks to get the new SW? sounds totally worth it, would rather do that than get in some debate about a non-existent problem. Unless shadowcoder wants to let us know about the bug he found.
