Performance Brake Kit
Hello...
New to the forum and to BMW's but I just installed the Performance Brake Kit to my E92 (Non M) and it all bolts up. The real issue is at the rear. The parking brake drum is larger than stock. I solved that by pressing a sleeve into the new drum to match the old. Some trimming of the rear dust shield is required.... Simple! Brake pedal feel is different but the car stops as soon as you touch the pedal. I may look into installing an M series Master Cylinder to see if that makes a difference. I also added the M front stabilizer, Koni FSD shocks and H&R Sport Springs. The car is a dream to drive everyday. The shocks a really good. I don't track the car so I'm happy with how it works and looks. Just my thoughts..... TimO |

The pedal seems like stock with more stopping power! Since the Master is probably small for this setup the pedal didn't get firmer. I don't have any other experience with BMW's, but love this car, so to me it's still good.
I drove the car again this morning and now can't really tell whats changed! I found the BBK on sale in New Jersey and knew I could make it work if there was an issue. I haven't done any new programming on it yet but have been in contact with my programmer to see if its required. Cheers |

Just finished the fronts on my 328xi. Rotor, pads, caliper, carriers, and upgraded SS lines.

Got the fronts on. Can't really see it with my crappy phone pics, but put silver BMW decals on the rattle clip and then gloss cleared over it. Thought it looked nice without being too flashy.
Also went ahead and installed new F.A.G wheel bearings. I didn't think the ones I had were bad yet, but after comparing it to the new ones, very glad I changed them out. They weren't making noise or messing with handling, but they don't spin any where near as well as the new bearings. My e90 is a 325i, so not as easy to do the rears as the fronts. I opted to get a used 335i knuckle instead of welding brake shoes in order to have parking brakes. Pressed on new bearing for the rears as well. Will install the rear sometime this week. Also, I bought new F30 protective back plates, since I know people have been putting them on 335i's and made an assumption that it'd fit for my car too. They don't fit. Installed driver side. Changed out to a 335i knuckle, new bearings, axle (325i axle splines will not work with the 335i hub), hub , new parking brake shoes and then calipers and pads.
OMG, huge pain in the dick!!! Nothing wanted to come apart. It was a struggle with every torx bolt on the axle. And then the 335i axle I got off a recycling yard did not want to go in the hub. This was after I had already gotten the 335i knuckle all in. Had to take everything apart to get the axle to go in the hub. And the ABS speed sensor for a 325i is not the same as the 335i, so now I gotta get those too. When I jumped in to do this, I was thinking just need the 335i knuckle and I'd be set. After purchasing that, saw I also needed the axles (RealOEM has two pictures with part numbers for the half-shafts. In one picture, the 325i and 335i use the same axle nut. That was the picture I saw first and made me think I could just keep my current axle. The second picture, the 325i uses a different nut. That picture was the correct one). If I had known what I know now, I wouldn't have done all this. Oh well, gotta hunt down some 335i speed sensors. Maybe get the other side done tomorrow or over the weekend. Kinda burnt out. |

Speed sensors on order. $60 per with free shipping for new ATE, not too bad. Also ordered a third off ebay for $25 shipped.
I think I read that someone thought the parking cable needed to be replaced. Doesn't seem like it, but I have only done the driver side. I think the passenger side will be a lot easier to do since the exhaust is not in the way. Also, I took almost an hour trying to get the parking brakes back together because I didn't read the manual . Best thing to do is after mounting everything (knuckle/hub and pressing in the parking brake service spring under the handle inside the interior), hook the parking brake cable on the lever, screw in the cam lock style fasteners for both shoes. Position the cable lever and the turn-buckle looking spreader thing (sorry, at a loss what to call this stuff lol) AND THEN try to put the springs on. I kept trying to put the springs on first. Burned too much daylight doing that lol |

I was wondering about upgrading my brakes as well. Are there any models that use larger brakes than the 335i? Like maybe the 535i or the 7-Series? I guess M3 brakes are an option but I'm not looking to spend that kind of money.

Did my passenger side, went like clockwork. Took maybe 3 hours and a good chunk of it was wrapping up all my old parts for storage as a "just in case", that I will keep around till I am sure there are no problems. Found one bad control arm. Guess the bushing is bad? Not really a suspension guy, but I am guessing it's bad because "one of these is not like the others". It has no rebound, no tension, nothing. Guess it's an excuse to replace with an M3 control arm. Already have an M3 lower control arm from my Ground control coilover kit. Waiting on parts to complete it now, but the rest should be easy. Will torque everything on a lift with tires on after I get the new torx bolts for the axles. This was not easy. Welding on the parking brake shoes sounds like such a simpler solution and if I had it to do over again, I'd just do that. On the plus side, I did all 4 wheel bearings since I was taking all that stuff apart anyway. The fronts definitely needed changing, not sure about rears as I destroyed them on dis-assembling. I am glade it's done for the most part |

Just to revive this old thread, I did my 335 brake upgrade this week, here's some pics. Painted the calipers burnt bronze. The new brakes still look a bit tiny inside those 19" performance-wise you can really feel the difference.

So after reading through this. I can put 335i/xi brakes, front and rear, on my 325xi pnp. If that is so, does that mean that I can also put on BBK, front and rear, meant for the 335 pnp?

XI is speacial in this way because of rear hand brake & bearing/ knuckle - you can use 335i brakes all around including 335i spec BBK
