I have seen something similar in the past, where the USB script being used doesn't "cut" the right part of the VIN_generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController file. I've modified your file with your VIN. It probably won't work, but worth a shot, right? |

The USB stick method has failed in the past, as it cuts the 319 byte file out of the VIN_generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController file. If there is more than one section in the file which matches the header bytes, it will return the first one (which may not be correct).
At this point you would need to follow one of the other methods to retrieve the full file above, and "cut out" the right part of the file to make the correct 1B file for your car. |

Just wanted to say thank you for these easy to use tools! My new-to-me E90 M3 was running the original maps it came with (Australia 2011 Premium), and now my system is running the new 2018 maps.
I first tried generating the code with the experimental VIN feature, but that didn't work for me. Went for the USB method to extract the 1b file, generated the code, and then entered it with a USB loaded with the maps. With the Aussie maps only being about 3GB, the whole process took maybe 15mins. Thanks again! Before: Now: |

Guys i have a quick question, obviously unless your buying from the dealer the code will be genuine, how are sellers on ebay managing to get 'genuine' codes? without the hex file ?

Thanks for the tool, Jagaer and the people who created it.
I had the activation code generated for the map update but throughout the updating process iDrive didn't even ask for it. A bit strange lol |

I have tried to download the fsc code generator but says it now requires premium access... is the code generator availble without being a premium account holder? (think the free hosting finished yesterday?)

I used the lifetime code (different to the non lifetime option) from the generator and it worked...can I assume that no code is needed going forward (not that its any hassle to generate).
Thanks for making this all available..saves going on ebay and spending £45 for essentially doing the same stuff. |

It is possible the sources I used to reference what is a "valid" VIN are out of date, but yours doesn't seem to be valid. For BMW, the first digit should be the plant assembly number, which should be one of: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, K, L, M, N, P, V, W. I'm not certain what plant is "0". If you have an X4, I'd expect it to be built in Spartanburg (until Trump tariffs force it to move), which is Plant Code "L" and "M". Last edited by Jagaer; 07-09-2018 at 12:14 PM.. |
