I'm confused what this means... "July 2021 - Nov 2022: M2 hiatus; G80 M3 and G82/G83 M4 = BMW M 'entry models';" You said early pre-LCI models are in production until June 2022 so what are "entry models" from July 2021 to November 2022? Is there only going to be one LCI for the M3 taking place next year and that's it for the rest of it's life cycle? Do you expect a big change with the grill as early as July 2022? Thanks in advance. |

Lesson in all of this -> the 'optimum and final' G80 design will emerge with the G82 LCI as they now share front ends since the F8x generation (an unnecessarily limiting decision IMO by M that deviates from BMW's own strategy of further separating the 3er and 4er lines). Having been burned by the F80 launch I decided to drop later into the M lifecycle and benefit from the earlier year production fast-fails. No surprise then I'm now driving a F87 CS and not waiting for a Year 1 G80. |

Small detail that makes me chuckle on that slide - all three M variants state they are for the racetrack. Yet, if you take any of them onto the track, you void your warranty. Go figure.

Think about the M2 back then, where they introduced LCI even after a year or so, nothing changed except the lights, dashboard cluster and thats it...then again a year later it moved already to the M2C....so it is unusual, but happend.

The only chance for the G8X to get a mildly revised grille is when the S58 adapts the 48V system where belts are all removed and the engine accessories may get repositioned which warrants a front fascia update.
Be noted, the 48v talked about here is the ISG system (check Mercedes I6 and V8 48Vs), not the way too technologically inferior BSG system found from current B58 variants. Could be the S59 engine to improve efficiency and fix turbo lag with electric boost, although to the vast majority fixing front end aesthetic is much more important.

The E36, E90 and the F80 M3 had their LCI after one model year of introduction. We will be fine.

Speaking of Mercedes ISG, there are rumors they'll begin using a 400V version of the system in some applications which would essentially evolve it from MHEV to HEV. |

Wishful thinking but I believe this is where BMW is going with their design language. I have a feeling this styling will work its way across the brand with many/most of the models.

Is the G87 going to be built in Mexico as well? I keep my finger crossed that the LCI will solve the grill problem for the G80 and for a Canadian G81.

ISG is the so called 2nd generation of 48V tech and will eventually be mass used as the best none plug-in hybrid option. https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/01/30/b...e-48v-systems/

Everywhere marketing says it's made for the track, so it would be false advertising, it's severely punished... that can't be right... They probably won't cover competitions or if the car is not stock, but occasional track use i can't see this being a possible reason...
