Edited motor steps for perfect scale
Did this quick mod on X5 35D but 100C was not centered
Using motor steps 0-420-840-1260-1680 gave me perfect 1/4 75C, 1/2 centered 100C, 3/4 125C and 1/1 150C Try it, it works better Anyone knows where I can get a sticker to cover mpg scale and get oil temp scale? |

I successfully coded my 2009 E91 N52K (US), now need to repeat on 2013 E70 M57Y(US) I would not worry about sticker - here is why: When you code (temp) 40-65-90-115-140, you get easy-to-remember mpg-to-temp values. First: 40C 50mpg: 64C 30mpg: 80C Center: 90C 20mpg: 100C 17mpg: 110C 15mpg: 120C 13mpg: 130C 12mpg: 140C I did multiple experiments with motor steps and concluded it is best to keep original motor steps (as they come from factory for mpg, including initial offset). |

He does custom stickers for gauge cluster dials. I ordered one last year for my diesel and asked him to keep the same font as the stock dials with custom numbers for the new temp gauge. |

my venoxy order shipped last week.
stripped out the km/h gauge, and updated it to bullets instead of dashes so there's less light. I hate dash lighting at night. |

It can have less miles and it still needs to be virginized. You'll have the tamper dot and it will not be codeable with the VIN mismatch. it definitely won't be plug and play.

Close. The tach will need to be rescaled so if you have the 335i tach settings it would work fine otherwise it will be a bit off.

If you don't account for the variations in options between different vehicles it will throw errors all day and every day until it is coded. For example, hardtop vs verts, will throw a error, manual vs auto, error. Different CC type, active vs non active steering. Difference in telematics, errors. If you get lucky and use a cluster from a car similarly optioned to yours, yes you may get lucky and it will work without errors. There will will be a list of codes if you bother to read them though.

But I will reiterate, do not get one with higher miles than yours. |

well they arrived the other day.
so I attempted this today. The faces are nice. pretty much exactly like the OE material. Fit VERY tightly. Get your shit screwed on tight before you try to stick them. I literally had the job done in thirty minutes. Looked great. if you're sensing a "but" to this, there is. Somehow I damaged the speedometer stepper motor. it's just dead, and it doesn't feel like the others if you try and turn it. It just flops, while all of the others feel like stepper motors. no idea how. I did it the same as all the others. I desoldered it from the board, but it's obviously never supposed to come apart. all of the motors appear to be the same. I'm just going to order an ebay cluster for $40 and scavenge a motor from it. Beware that the PCB DOES NOT LIKE HEAT. I had the iron too hot and lifted a pad near instantly. proceed with caution if you attempt repairing it. to beat all I somehow managed to scratch the brand new face removing the needles, even though I protected it with eyeglass cleaning clothes. and I managed to really fuck up the oil temp needle position. so, it's midnight, I'm mad and it's time to quit. tomorrow is another day. the fuel gauge is correct. I'll code the MPH into the LCD display so I have a speedo I'll wait for parts cluster to arrive so I can scavenge parts before I dick with taking it apart again. The less I fuck with it the better off I am apparently. bad luck led to frustration which led to me damaging the face. should have quit when I got mad about the speedo and came back tomorrow. TL;DR The Venoxy faces are real nice, and if you don't dick up something it will take you 30 minutes to install them. |

parts cluster is on it's way.
then I thought, self, you're gonna have a parts cluster. and chances are the cruise control wheel is identical to the M3 variable redline wheel, cause BMW. so maybe we all learn how to get a sweet variable redline wheel too. probably just have to solder the motor to the board and transfer the wheel over. I'll have to figure out how to color it to match. |

You popped the worm gear off inside the stepper which is relatively easy to fix.

but for the life of me I couldn't get the stepper apart. and I normally take apart laptops and rc servos and such. just easier to harvest one and solder it on my board. plus spare parts! |
