Should work. Did you format your flash drives first?

That is not CIC.

The script is for CIC only.

The script is for systems that have Premium CIC maps. I could not get it to work with a Move equipped car.

You can still generate the FSC code after retrieving the 1B file from the car manually.

The following is by far the easiest and most convenient way to pull your 1b file from your car and generate an FSC update code for your BMW CIC navigation unit (at least for me) and I haven't come across any other method that is easier.

Tools required:

-one usb stick.
- 1b.zip: Attached below.
- “bmw_cic_fsc_generator.zip“: Download Windows version from https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lW0...ew?usp=sharing or directly from Jaeger's thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464
- Maps.zip: Attached below.

“1b.zip” contains the files necessary to pull the 1b file from your car via USB, “bmw_cic_fsc_generator.zip“ contains the FSC generator (a big thanks to user Jaeger and I hope he doesn't mind me using his generator as my preferred choice for generating fsc codes) and “MAPS.zip“ contains different map versions covering the most popular regions (North America, Europe and OZ/New Zealand).

First step: Pull 1b file from your car via usb stick.

1. Unpack the ZIP file (1b.zip) to the root of an empty USB stick
2. Power on your car (ignition on is fine, you don't need to start your car) and wait until the navigation system has started completely
3. Put the USB stick in the USB port in the glove box (do not use the usb port found in the middle console).
4. Wait for around 30 seconds
5. Remove the USB stick from the port in the glove box and put it in your (windows) computer
6. Check if the file 1b.hex is present on the USB stick (if not go to step 2 and try another USB stick). The file should be exactly 319 bytes in size and you can check your file by opening it with a hex editor such as HxD https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

Second step: Generate your FSC code using Jaeger's FSC generator

1. Unpack the ZIP file (bmw_cic_fsc_generator.zip) in Windows/Mac (after unpacking wait for a couple of seconds for the generator to automatically download the file Lookup.xml")
2. Open the FSC generator by clicking on "BMW_CIC_FSC_Generator.exe" and select the 1b file you pulled from your car as described above.
3. Select desired map type, region and version to generate your code.

Last step: Download desired map version and install on USB stick:

1. Unpack the ZIP file (MAPS.zip) and click on your desired map version (make sure you have a bit torrent client installed) to download it.
2. Put the downloaded map on an empty USB stick (just make sure it has been formatted using fat32).

Plug the usb stick containing your downloaded map version in the glove box of your car and switch your ignition on. After a couple of minutes your CIC will prompt you to update your map version. Just enter your generated code and the update will commence automatically.
That's it, you're done and good to go!

Big thanks again to Jaeger for his excellent fsc code generator http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464.

Update: Maps.zip now contains a direct torrent download link for north america premium 2018-1 which supports both updating via dvd or alternatively via usb stick.

Hi,
Has anyone tried in F30 or do you know if is compatible,

I pulled the 1b hex file, used the FSC generator, got a code and it says that the activation code is incorrect, I followed the complete tutorial.

I have Europe West PREMIUM 2009 nav (CIC) on an E60 530 LCI 2009.

Please help.

You can only update the CIC using USB if you Navigation screen shown a tick with a letter i in the bottom left corner of the map display ? if it shows a circle your CIC needs a firmware update, this is documented elsewhere on this forum. The only way is update using DVD if this is the case.

If your display has the tick could your CIC unit be a retrofitted from another vehicle?

If not all I can think of you have selected a wrong option in the FSC Generator ?
Ensure CIC is selected (not NBT)
Browse and select the 1b hex file (this should be 319 bytes?)
Map Type: PREMIUM
Region: EUROPE WEST
Maps: ROAD MAP EUROPE WEST PREMIUM (USB) 2018-1
Select lifetime (optional but a no brainer)
Then Generate Code.

Hope this helps

doesn't work fo me

I'm trying without success to update my cic gps with ROAD MAP PREMIUM 2018-1. Each time I do a try, each time I got a message telling the activation code is invalid.

my VIN : WBAUX11040A811874

I succeeded in retrieving my 1b file by following the first step, generated a fsc code using the FSC generator :

I downloaded BMW Road Map Premium Europe West 2018-1.7z from this web site : https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1432628

Usb stick plugged into the glove box, ignition of my cic system. The usb update is recognized, inviting me to enter fsc code. But each time, it's end with a message telling me that the code is invalid.

Here is some screenshot of my actual CIC:

Could you tell me what's wrong ?

Can I downloaded map BMW ROAD MAP EUROPE WEST 2018-1 1USB.zip ? is it ok for my configuration (even if it isnt premium map) ?

same issue

I have exactly the same issue with a very similar hardware / software combination as vox. VIN is E195955, late 2009 E90 M3. My version information is identical to the vox' screenshot, although curiously I don't have the "I with a checkmark" in the bottom right circle (so that can't be the reason this is not working)

1b file downloads onto USB stick like a charm

Maps downloaded & copied to stick

Use key generator for FSC code

Plug USB stick into glove box USB port

CIC recognizes map update & requests FSC key

FSC key not accepted

Reading left and right on the interweb, it seems the CIC was upgraded sometime in 2010....are we with '09 cars left in the cold, is there another way? Would trying a different map change things?

Any hints appreciated!

I think I know why your install is not working, the files you have downloaded (BMW Road Map Premium Europe West 2018-1.7z) is for the 3 USB setup. To confirm this is the case look at the files I suspect it is split up into 3 folders USB1 USB2 USB3 intended for 3 DVD or 3 individual USB installations.

I used a different single USB install. Try Download BMW ROAD MAP EUROPE WEST 2018-1 as zipped up in the original post :-

http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...6&d=1517407334

E90M3DE

Unfortunately I think no checkmark means your Navigation is not suitable for USB installation only by DVD's. Your CIC unit will require a firmware update first to enable USB installation, this firmware update can be performed by your dealer. I suspect they will charge you for this.

Hope this helps you guys

Thanks for the info!

2 thoughs

- It strikes me as odd that the system would not be capable of a USB map upgrade, when it does recognize a map upgrade if inserted into the USB port.....
- I'm completely happy upgrading using a DVD instead of a USB stick. Anyone have a clue how that works? Simply burn the 3 USB stick data to 3 DVDs, and load them in the reader? I'll give that a try unless someone here knows better

Cheers

Hey guys,

Recently picked up a 2011 328 with cic and premium maps. Nothing has ever been touched on the car coding wise with the exception of me performing the 1008 update bin from BMW to add enhanced Bluetooth functionality to idrive.

I'm no noob regarding technology but I can't for the life of me get my system to generate anything from the 1b script, let alone the hex file that it should produce.

Any ideas with this problem?

To add, I've used several USB sticks including the one I used to successfully update idrive from the same USB port inside the glovebox. Even tried it in the centre console USB port just for laughs and still nothing...

Disregard folks! Being bullheaded and frustrated i went out and tried it again. Still didnt work, but then i went to the software update menu of idrive and while it didnt detect any software on the usb stick, when i brought it back inside and connected it back up to my pc - low and behold the hex file and fsc.bat were there! Very strange but i dont care as it finally worked. Yay!

Oh, and it didnt reboot the system either like indicated in this thread...
