Does anyone know what the score is with the BMW warranty? After doing a bit of research, am I right in thinking that the worst-case is that it could invalidate a warranty claim only if it relates to the Audio system?

If they fit it cant invalidate warranty!

Very true - but I'm not keen on paying them £300-£400 to do that when it doesn't look too hard. I've had door panels off before on other cars so I'm willing to give it a go!

Well I will get my done by my mate who is a BMW Techy, So no probs for me and he does all servicing and warranty claims so no isssue. I think you would have to be unlucky if you have a problem with stereo after fitting this.

hi all,

i have just completed my install following all the instructions on the pdf, its more like 5 hours, its sdound much better than the stock system , subs kick harder and louder ,

it definately does not amplify the rear speakers!

my only problem is that i have an electrical whining sound on the speakers when the car is on it also changes higher and lower with accelaration,

anybody know how to fix this ?

There's no whining sound on mine. Sounds like it could be a wiring problem where a bad connection is allowing interference to be picked up but it's best to rule out a configuration issue first.

1. What radio does your car have and did you set the switch on the amplifier accordingly?

SA 662 - BMW Business CD radio - Switch Position 1
SA 663 - BMW Professional radio - Switch Position 2
SA 606 - Business Navigation system - Switch Position 2
SA 609 - Professional Navigation system - Switch Position 2

2. When you connected the tweeters to the crossover did you plug them into the correct sockets?

There's a choice of two yellow wired sockets for the tweeters. One would have been labeled for "Radio Headunit SA 662". The other labeled for "Radio Headunit SA 606, SA 609, SA 663".

3. If you play with the fader and the balance on the headunit, does the whining sound come through to the rear speakers? Does the whining sound come through both left and right speakers?

Where have you connected the ground ?

Had the same issues with mine when I first upgraded the stereo. It was because they run the wires to the amp in the boot along the same route as the car electrical wires (can't remember if it was left or right), but they had to take out the wires and run them down the other side.

I ran mine (for the Blaupunkt amp install) down the passenger side. I did see in the drivers footwell some heafty cables obviously relating to battery and engine/alternator.

I've ordered my kit today and I'm expecting to pick it up at the weekend.

Does anyone have any pictures of where you put the amp in the boot and where you routed the cables through the rear bulkhead?

Yea they probably ran it down there. Seemed a little daft, they argued the cables are so well insulated it wouldn't make a difference. Had nothing to say when they swapped it over and there was 0 interference.

They still couldn't power the subs seperately though as it caused serious feedback... I'd love to get a real professional to look at it and see what's wrong (i'm not running the subs at full potential obviously)

i have grounded it at the recommended ground on the left rear wheel arch,
i am going to try zeroing the amp gains , and boosting the input signals on the loc.

Zeroing the amp gains?? Is it the Alpine kit you installed?

I've read the Alpine install guide and it shows where to put the amp and where to run the cables matie... The amp sits under the boot floor at the back left. On mine there is a metal frame with space for it, sure it'll be the same on yours. On the right hand side you'll have your Bluetooth and DAB tuner modules (if installed)

Why is the Bluetooth module so BIG....in my phone it must be the size of a postage stamp or smaller

Just in case it helps, i've installed it in my E87. The cables (-Ve and +ve) were both wrapped together so i connected them both directly to the battery terminals and I don't have any whining noise so you could try that.

Thanks for the response. Can I just clarify, in my e93 when you lift up the grey boot floor cover this exposes the storage hole at the rear towards the bumper but there is nowhere obvious to out the amp.

There is a black plastic cover which is roughly the width of the boot towards the front of the car with some screws in it. Does it go under here?

By the way I don't have Nav, Bluetooth or DAB so unfortunately I can't use these as a point of reference.

If you lift the grey boot floor cover, you'll notice only half the floor lifts (the side nearest the bumper. If you lift the whole grey boot floor up you'll see another area to the rear. This is where the DAB, Bluetooth and Alpine amp live. You can lift the whole thing out to make life easier.
