Thanks for pointing that out...I'm going to have to check this weekend. Could have swore it was clearing ever so slightly, but maybe I ignored due to the black felt type wrap being in place.

I looked. I see the same thing but the black wrap stuff is right there at the contact point. It is touching on my car.

Same, touching, just barely.

This ACDelco battery from Amazon seems to have a 36-month free replacement warranty vs NAPA's 24-month replacement warranty:

https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-49AGM.../dp/B006N91BLY

It's a little pricier but it is AGM.

please note: switching to an AGM battery requires coding/programming if you have switched from a white case battery (lead acid).

Batteries Plus has the best deal I have seen for an AGM battery. They sell the Duracell AGM that has a 48 month free replacement (not prorated) 850CCA (which is much higher than stock) battery for our cars for $219.99. That is where I will get mine when the time comes.

Yep. For my use I kept the lead acid battery and just registered it with ISTA-D.

Float charge

I'll be out of town for a little over a month and want to hook up a float charger on the oem battery. Would it be better to hook it up under the hood or directly to the battery? thanks

Sam's club has it for $169.67 but I just checked and it's currently on sale for $144.67. Only 3 year replacement vs 4, but I don't think an extra year is worth $75!

For what it is worth, Consumer Reports rated these batteries the highest in the Group 48/H6 and Group 49/H8:

Interstate MT7-48/H6, cost $260, score 93
Bosch H6-760B, cost $140, score 85
Interstate Mega-Tron Plus MTP-48/H6, cost $150, score 81
EverStart MAXX-H6 car battery, cost $110, score 73

DieHard Advanced Gold AGM 50749, cost $190, score 71
DieHard Gold 50849 (North), cost $180, score 70
EverStart MAXX-H8, cost $125, score 56

I just bought a Interstate Mega-Tron Plus MTP-48/H6 for a cost of $175.95 plus installation and coding of $84. I have a Carly, but let them install and code it for purposes of the battery warranty.

The car ran OK, but got the triangle with the exclamation point on it. I cleared that with the Carly and made sure the battery was synched with the Carly. After a couple of tries of clearing some odd codes 29E1, 29E0, 2D06 and D115, the triangle warning went away. From what I can tell, those codes come around sometimes when you disconnect the battery. Good thing I have the Carly Pro, but I bought some Techron to dump in the tank just to make sure the injectors stay clean.

I am afraid to mess with anything that's connected to the actual battery itself so I just plug my charger/maintainer/desulfater under the hood.

Under the hood is recommended.

Wow, DieHard Advanced Gold AGM H8/49 is only $132 right now (Gold is $123). CyberWeek deal.

Direct to the battery is the best method for the battery, but its all about equally effective. If you have anything bigger than small size clamps its nearly impossible to get them directly to the battery terminals.

I would just disconnect the battery if you think it will run down. DON'T shut the trunk unless you cover the latch with a towel/blanket. Hope the car is in a place where trunk being unlocked is okay.

I'd hook it up to the positive post under the hood. There probably is a negative post or at least something solid to hook up as ground under the hood.

The one I bought is gasoline engines. I don't think they make one for diesels.

I just got this battery (waiting for my Schwaben tool to arrive before installing)
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...itemDetailTab_

Is this one ok?

I have a white flooded cell right now. OEM 90 AH. Would this new battery require reprogramming in addition to registration?

It is not recommended by chevron....

Can I use TECHRONŽ Concentrate or PRO-GARDŽ in a diesel engine?
Chevron fuel additives are designed for all carbureted or fuel injected, spark ignition engines. Techron Concentrate can be used with diesel fuel in light duty indirect injected diesel engines, such as Mercedes Benz and Peugeot. We do offer Chevron Dieselmotive for direct injected diesel engines typically found in light and heavy duty trucks

I decided a long time ago, after seeing the numerous issues related to battery snafus on this car, I am going to replace mine with the cheapest lead-acid model I can find every 3 years, whether it needs it or not.
