Just an update on my car if anyone's interested... I took my car to the dealer Monday after I returned it to "stock", and they found a faulty #3 injector and replaced it under my 60 day used car warranty

The car runs much better now and I havent had a single code or misfire since, and I even installed my new Cobb S1 aggressive 93 map... and man oh man does it run GREAT! Now its time to re-install the rest of my mods

That is why I asked about fuel codes. They usually replace 3 injectors or 6 but atleast its working now.

Yeah, I never got any other codes besides the misfire codes...
The dealer said that the HPFP and 4 of my injectors were already replaced under the recall last year... So I guess that means I still have one "old" injector in the car

But at least its running great for now

So what would you get? For the last 12 years or so, I've driven only turbo'd cars, and have intentionally only bought those, knowing the potential for tuning them to make big power with ease and little $. I don't think I'll ever go with an NA engine again!

Even Audi's 3.0T engine that's supercharged can be tuned to squeeze out a lot more power, and I at first thought that superchargers didn't leave much on the table, only turbos did, but looks like that's not the case with that engine!

Well my last car was N/A but I added a supercharger. It was quite fun and VERY reliable. Oh and might I mention 70K miles and it NEVER saw the dealer.

Next on my personal list is a c6 z06. For those who know me I've been talking about it for years even before I bought my BMW. Hopefully next year

My HPFP and Injectors were never changed, so i am going to the dealer on Tuesday to take care of those, hoping that will solve it.

Also, my Spark Plugs have not been changed, so i am changing those this weekend.

Any other advice?

Ill post my results.
That should be it.

I always have a saying if it aint broke don't fix it. (But if you got them for free then yes). Otherwise wait and see. Coils are an easy swap.

Well, guess what guys! I loaded my Cobb AP last week, and just last night I started getting a misfire code on cylinder 4 now!!

So I removed the engine cover and I took a look at the injectors and sure enough, the cylinder 4 injector looks different then other 5 injectors. On the top of the injector, there is a very small dimple in the metal, and 5 of my injectors have this dimple in the center, and the cylinder 4 injector has this dimple off to one side... what a coincidence? I think not...

And is just so happens my car is not covered under my 60 day used car warranty anymore... so, I guess I'll be buying and replacing a fuel injector real soon! I just need to find someone to code the injector for me in the Chicago land area, or just order the cable, do a lot of research, and try coding it myself.

anyway, still having the issues. Missfire on Cylinder 2,3 and Random misfire codes. Still having the Engine stutter/hiccup in high gear low rpms mid throttle acceleration.

Going tomorrow to dealer to get the HPFP and Injectors looked at for the recall.

any other advice in the mean time?

PS: I have not changed or troubleshooted coils yet. Figure i would get the recall work done first.

Thanks in advance!
Its likely fuel related especially if the hardware has not been changed under recall yet.

Sorry, fuel related as in hardware (ie injectors, high pressure fuel pump, and or lower pressure fuel pump).

Wow, that first one (#1 is closest to front) looks a bad as mine. Running really rich. I put 6 new plugs in and pulled them after a week. They all were good except for my #2 looks like your #1. I wonder what you new plugs look like now.

You have any idea whats going on with yours?
I have no idea.

-I distroyed 2 plugs in my #2 cylinder in about a months time
-Third plug is already black with carbon after a week
-piston top looks pretty wet with fuel and carbon
-compression test is OK, just a little lower than than the others
-currently not misfiring (just light rumble on cold starts) but I have not done a long 1/4 run on the new plugs yet

I am thinking the injector is done or the coil is not giving enough voltage to get a good burn. I am taking her in under CPO warranty this week to see if they can figure it out. Fingers are crossed that ther is no cylinder or valve damage.

hey - quick question. I don't know if I've watched the matrix too much but my car is showing timing patterns that almost look designed by hand.
e.g. 5 out of 6 cylinders at a partial (but not neutral) throttle load are the same but cylinder 2 is a retarded by a couple of degrees until higher revs or more load applied.
At other times, under a trailing throttle cylinders 1,3 and 5 share one timing, 2,4 and 6 share another timing value, out by a couple of degrees. Or as the throttle is lifted cylinders 1 and 2 go out of time to the rest.

Is this timing, or 'sound effects' engineered by BMW / COBB? It almost looks designed by hand - very linear.

no codes were thrown when I look at the AP.

Thanks in advance.
Chris

Question

Went to take my car out for the first time again today since it was nice out and immediately knew something was wrong. The car took a couple cranks to start up, had a very rough idle, and could definitely tell it was misfiring. Read the codes via the JB4 and told me the following:

29CD Misfirings, cylinder 1
29CF Misfirings, cylinder 3
29CE Misfirings, cylinder 2
29CC Misfirings, several cylinders

Spark Plugs were just changed by the dealer about 5,000 miles ago, HPFP was replaced about 10,000 miles ago, and Injectors did not fall under the recall according to the dealer. Do you think the Spark Plugs would go bad that quickly? If I replace the Coilpacks would you suggest replacing all Spark Plugs as well? Even with the Spark Plugs being pretty new? Thanks!

Yeahdickey,
Sorry to hear that the dealer hosed the injector install.

I assume the nasty black plug was from the cylinder with the bad injector? Reason I ask is one of my injectors looks the same and getting worse every week (will take a pick and post it later this week). I am wondering if mine is the same cause. I had my one or two of my injectors replaced several months ago...not sure if it was the same cylinder but I will check when I go to the dealer. Luckily I am still under CPO.

2F6C Exhaust fumeflap, input signal
29CF Misfirings, cylinder 3
29CD Misfirings, cylinder 1
30BA DME digital motor electronics, internal failure
29CC Misfirings, several cylinders
0000 Failure location not implemented

These are the codes that I'm am getting. I will go home and swap the coils and see if those are the problem. Does anyone know what 30BA code means?

^is your car an early 2007 build date? i think that code (30BA) means that your dme is done. ecu replacement is very common in that year (early 2007 build dates). there's a technical service bulletin about it.

the car is 10/07 built. The car starts but all it does is shake and blurp. I clear the code and the only code that comes up now is the 30BA code. Im out off warranty, how much would it run me to get it fixed?

^your Ecu is probably done. It can be $2,000+ after labor. You can do it cheaper if you find a used Ecuador and pay the dealer to code and program it. You can also buy the power pack, that comes with a new ecu
