Thanks guys for appreciation.

Few updates.
Spoke to the company who is selling tracker. That comes with pre-paid vodafone sim card. According to them any sim should work.

However according to far east sellers, that system can only take 2-2.5G sim cards which means sim from 3 network will not work with this system.

My kit of sensors and siren is in. When I get sometime, I will play it in my home first and later install it in my car over the weekend (if I get time).

Guys keep the good work going. I hope BBC watchdog also cover BMW cars, so BMW can sort out this issue.

An alternative way of wiring in a shock sensor to the OEM alarm; might be worth adding to the 1st post for multiple references; unless you already have and i cannot spot it lol

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...d+shock+sensor

Buy using this harness option, you do not need to cut into any factory wires

Thanks for the collation of info, it was very useful and should be a sticky.

The other option here is a quick trip to maplins and buying a pair of connectors to completely remove the OBD port in such a way that you can reconnect it easily and at your leisure.

Great summary of all the options, thanks for putting it together makkan00 (and to all those who've contributed the guides, etc).

As of this morning my OBD2 is now relocated and stickers in the windows reflect this. Disklok on the way

Cheers mate.
Can you kindly elaborate it further?

There is another option.
Those cars which ran out of warranty, owners can add electronic switch with the key and it will cut the circuit to ecu (no key can be cloned).
Again dead easy but if there is an option of complete removal of OBD port then I guess nobody would go down the route of splicing wires.

Thanks guys for your contribution.

Idnan has kindly sent me a DIY, 'how to add switch to power supply of coilpack'.
This is valid for petrol cars and done on 335i. If you wish to try on another petrol car then you have to open the wiring box (locatd on Left hand side under the bonnet) and disconnet the wire 8 of green plug. If you car does not start after this, you can extend the wires to add a switcth to this and hide switch somewhere in your car.

This switch should be fine as you can open / close the circuit with keys. So if by chance, somebody locates your switch then they should not be able to close the circuit to turn on your car.

If you are going for a tracker mentioned earlier in my first post, then it has fuel cut supply. You can simply connect that to this and in theory that should not let anybody start your car.

Or If you are is stolen then by a simple click you can open the circuit and your car will halt.

Here is brief DIY how to add switch. (Thanks to Idnan)

I took some pictures of the cut off switch wiring on my car. I left out pics of how to get to the ECU box as that is in a few guides on this forum. Also I didn't take pics of the switch itself as it would give away the location

ECU box:

Green connector at front of box. Coilpack power feed is number 8 on the plug. I snipped it a few inches from the connector and soldered the two black wires onto them:

How to feed wires into the passenger footwell. Push wires through this reach from inside. The hole is at the rear of the ECU box:

How to remove the panel under glovebox, two torx screws and slide it towards you:

And where the wires come through:

Add a switch in the cabin and you are good to go.

Great thread makkan00

I'm grabbing a far east tracker off Ebay, going to see how it fares since its only costing £60 and is the same as the Back2You unit (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quad-band-...item2c5fc16c69). Looks like I will have to stick in an o2 PAYG sim with ten quid of credit to ensure it works, should be interesting.

That is bloody cheap. I hope you get it asap.
Can you please post a quick review as it is very tempting at that price?

I personally wants to buy one, just to play around. There is iphone application for it as well. So all in all very convenient tracker.

Yeah of course i will. It uses the same oem as that uk version so should essentially be same. Just needs a uk sim card etc.

if this proves effective i think its a bargain!!

There sure is. It arrived yesterday took a week to arrive from China - not bad. Didn't post anything yet since my sim card that I ordered didn't arrive and I wanted to make sure the unit was charged fully before I tested it out.

Grabbed a free sim card online. Charged for 5 hours, it says it takes this long but the LED didn't go out after 7 or more hours so I just stopped charging.

Once charged you just open the cover where the sim/aerials go and press in the yellow button with a pen, this ejects a tray for you to insert the sim. Pop it back in, switch on and follow instructions in the manual.

There are a few things you have to set up via SMS - sending over texts which are commands etc and I can confirm that it dropped me a msg after letting it call for 3 cycles and then hanging up. Gave me the location via a link which I then went to and it correctly positioned to within 200 yards. So if someone did nick the car you could at least know the rough vicinity. Overall... I'm quite impressed by this kit, adds more security and is fun/easy to use.

Some pics below:

Thanks Dark Enigma.
Once you installed it and have a proper play, can you update us please?

Also can you try geo-fencing and share the results please?

I am in and I really want to buy this just for fun. Beauty is, you can add it to any car. So even if you sell your beamer, install it on other car.

Are you going to install GPS antenna or going to rely on built in antenna?
