To my latin American brothers, I agree in our countries we have extremely wealthy people that account for 1%-5% of the population. The vehicle of choice is the Landscruiser, Prado, Nissan Patrol and other off road vehicles because of road conditions. Those same individuals love, Ferrari, Bimmers and Mercedes. Most people that we knew back home had awesome cars paid in cash and for 30%-50% sales tax compare to America but not everyone has that kind of wealth. So in reality we have a lot of poverty.

To my American brothers, Like myself there are many Central & South Americans that appreciate everything Americas has done for us. Also remember that every country including ours have very proud and patriotic people. US did alot for Nicaragua and I for one gave 6 good years of service in my new country's military. I also went to school in America (Legally) and have done very well for myself and my family.

What I love about this forum is that we all appreciate bimmers. It a great brand and it awesome to see BMW in my homeland of Nicaragua. If I lived there now I would probably have a daily driver like a Prado and a going out "nice area" car like an M.

People think that because they have purchased a M3 in the US, they are the top of the crop. With taxation and greediness that we have in Brazil, a 335i nowadays is more like US$ 170K, so we are in Ferrari and Porsche (Carrera 4S, 911 Turbo) territory when doing a direct comparison with the US market. If you see a South American (specially Brazilians) with a BMW, be sure that they are on a different tax bracket than you.

P.S.: I currently do not have a BMW, I have traded mine for an Audi TTS, I got a 2011, used, with 450 miles on the clock, price tag US$ 151K, if were bought brand new it would get out of the dealership for US$ 182 K. Plus the financing here is some ridiculous 25% APR, so I had to fork all the money upfront.

In Miami and L.A you see them everywhere. I studied in Miami or eight years and I know what I am talking about. Also you can see many many Porsches, Mercedes, Audis, Aston Martin, Maseratti etc as if they were given away.

One more point to consider is in the US most people leither lease or credit (credit rates from 1.99% special rate up to 6% or 8%, correct me if I am wrong) their cars and you can lease a luxury car for about 399 to 599 a month, and in Mexico, most people who buy a luxury car either by them cash or buy them credit (credit rates 14% to 16%, very expensive) in that case you end up paying from $800 to $1,000 depending on the downpayment and the years the credit is for.

Here in Mexico you have to go to the wealthy areas and surrounding otherwise you will not see them as often as you would want to. We have to consider that the level of insecurity, robberies, carjacking and kidnapping is around the corner, so that is why many people avoid having an expensive car and rather move themselves in affordable cars like Hondas, VW'w, Toyotas, Chevrolet and Dodge.

My 5 cents

totally agree...
ive lived in san antonio, monterrey(mexico), mexico city, chihuahua, tijuana, los angeles, and currently san diego... and the prices in mexico are tooootally diff...

and i can algo agree that depending on the areas that u are located ull see diff cars(prices).. but by far monterrey is my fav, with ferrari, maserati, bentley, aston martin, among others...

here is the diff in prices in US and mexico...

I can tell ya that in Venezuela (South America) the only BMW that you see on the road are the older models. The current administration is only allowing certain made of car into the country and purely becuase the administration has bad relation where those epsecific vehicles are made. For Example Nissan, VW, Mitsu, and Jeeps and only a certain models of them not the entire line of vehicles. If you find a new BMW which I am sure there are, is mainly because the owner is rich and has the resources to get them. The same goes for any other high end vehicle.

In Colombia you see a lot of new BMW`s. The most common are series 1,3 and 5. Also there are some M6´s, M5´s and 1M´s. The M3 its getting more participation over the years.

I dunno how to post pics here by cellphone, is it possible? I don't have the car with me yet, it just arrived by transportation truck yesterday in the capital city from the state (I live around 200 miles from there) to get checked by the best mechanical shop in the area, specialized in bimmers, tomorrow ( change transmission oil/gasket/pan/filter, motor oil and filter and valve cover gasket). I shoukd have it with me in a couple of days. But I already have pics of it from the seller.
