He is intended to race at the endurance races, so 12 Hours of Sebring, 6 Hours of The Glen, and Petite Le Mans remain.

The classes used today in racing are perhaps too disparate to be covered by a single car. The GTE/GT3 class is now so far removed from an actual car you can buy, as to render it almost meaningless. Effectively silhouette racers. The 911 is mid-engine, that is a huge change.
So for example Porsche decided to build a silhouette car with the engine in a different location for the GT3/GTE class, and use a more recognizable 911 for the GT4 class. You could say that Porsche is covering those classes with the same car but that would be wildly inaccurate. They are covering them with the same nameplate. BMW is covering those classes with 2 different cars, and nameplates: the M8 and the M4 - no doubt thinking each one is better suited for its category. Right or wrong? Not sure this question is meaningful anymore. Just watch the spectacle. In any case if you want to feel a sense of pride in your daily driver, look at the GT4 class results, not at the GTE.

Augusto just posted this to his IG. This pass is just... insane. Augusto is used to intense close-in racing in DTM, so it's no surprise he had the cajones to go for it.
This was at the bus stop, a spot where sooooo many drivers blew it yesterday. Such an amazing pass to win the race.

That was one WET race ! ! !
The last green flag period was more a demolition event than anything.

That's so cool #25 pulled out the win! Glad to see the M8 out there; M6 was so plagued so often at this level, the new platform is a relief to me.
I'm so used to seeing Porsche outperform the field in the wet, it's good to see some intense driving by Augusto and team put our roundel on the top step in such conditions. Shell racing is kinda frustrating to me. I get the whole BOP thing, and race control has gotten really good, but when I see factory teams racing custom builds so far from what they'll sell to the street I feel like they should just go do F1 or Nascar or something.

i used to live in Daytona...about 3 mile from the track and you could HEAR the cars engines racing at 2 AM ...AMAZIN!!
This was in 1996 to 1999...I would go to the track at 3 AM in the morning and it would be 40 deg in Florida ( yea it was COLD to me).. cannot forget those days Bill Auberlen was drivin along with Boris Said |
