Are you using OS Lion on the Mac? I downloaded it at home at the weekend (it took 8 hours) and I had to leave home for the week before it finished! I use both a PC and a Mac. I much prefer the Mac - faster and easier, a little quirky compared to the PC, but you get used to it. I am a Mac convert now and aim to but the new MacBook Pro 17" as soon as funds permit.

I used to adopt the attitude that we supply company Dell PCs running XP or 7 and that's it - if you want to use something else you're on your own and the only advice IT is required to give is 'use your work computer to do your work'. Sadly (or happily, depending on which side of the desk you sit!), corporate IT is moving towards a model where everyone brings whatever hardware and OS combination they like and we have to make our services play with it. If the CEO decides this week he wants a MacBook Air then next week he wants a Linux netbook, they both have to deliver the same experience with the same services he's used to without compromising our network security. Alas, this seems to mean moving just about everything to a web application instead of a rich client app - whilst web apps are improving, they're still fundamentally limited. However, it does mean we can move to a situation where we no longer trust that everything inside our network is secure, which is definitely a good thing. Ho hum...

I'm still baffled with why people think everything Apple do should be superb.
iPods are fine but plenty of better sounding MP3 players. I've got one(freebie) buy I'd rather have a Sony or Creative Zen. Using an iPhone 4 to post this. Piece of piss. Been with Vodafone for 10+ years and never had so much reception trouble. Nothing to do with the death grab. My 3G drops out very regular when other Vodafone users sitting next to me are fine. The sound on this one is distorted, like the first one, which now means I'm heading for a 4th iPhone 4 in less than 5 months. Totally unreliable but at least Apple do have good customer care. Apple Macs were great at school. Only because if you never got a Mac you were landed with a BBC micro. I hated my MacBook last year and found everything unnatural. Found it irritating and my equally priced PC blew in into the weeds by a huge margin. With the daughter at school I thought it was going to cause even more trouble for a young one to try and jump between a Mac and a normal windows based PC like they have at school and probably any company she works for afterwards. Everyone that buys Apple products keep going on about apps, software and bootcamp etc etc to make their Apple device just like normal phone or laptop. The solution in now clear to me. Having now sampled through ownership quite a few Apple products I will never buy one again. Nothing will ever convince me that their products are anywhere near as good as other brands for similar money. Appearance, brand image and marketing way beyond substance in my opinion. |

Kerr whic other touchscreen smartphones have you used?
There is a reception issue IMO but its with all these new smartphones. I have 5 or 6 phones I use on Vodafone and to some extent they all have the same reception issues.... |

Well, seems Lion is slower than SL (alebit <5%) http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-...-head-to-head/
Reading the apple site, they seem to all be very minor features: I would hardly call Full screen apps a key feature either. Mission Control oooo (do use this a bit though) Mac App store...really, do we need that in a new OS? Launchpad aka a desktop app view AirDrop - quite nice, but aboter small app in reality. I could go on, but need to get back to my darn MacBook

There are tons of under the hood improvements to the OS, but at the end of the day they are both just Linux based OS.
Apps that fully utilize Lion with 64bit will run better than on SL imo. Anyways if ya dont like it then just get rid.... |

Not quite true - they're actually FreeBSD (Unix) based, not Linux...
