Anyone did this way ?
It would seem that we dont need to seal it with any sort of glue at all... EDIT: Since no one here was able to answer me, well i did it myself and you can find it all at this post: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1758775 Literally the easiest way to fix the issue: $15 for 15 minutes of your time: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1758775

Thanks for taking the time on this video- much better to cut the band then to dremel or superheat and Channel lock mangle it off!
Quick question: I have 2013 N55, 120K, did valve cover gaskets at 90K, tensioner did not fix squeak, no oil leak. I have the short squeak only right before auto shut down and just after. It will not do it if you shut down with button, at all. Is this the same symptom you had? I don’t fully understand how crank pressure bleed would be different between these two shut down modes. What do you all recommend? |

Hello!
Can someone please point me into the right direction. I am having a curious problem with N55 (E90 335i): Last week I replaced the PCV Valve (Valve Cover is still original) because of the famous 28A0 Error code and some hesitation between 3000 and 4000 revs. PCV also failed the flame test. Since then I have this squaking if I start engine that is completelly warm. Squeaking is accompannied with uneven idle that is so bad, that car died a few times idling. This only occurs after the engine is started. It does not happen if engine was started cold. This happens only on warm starts. It does not happen on cold start. I also made a video representation of problem: My question is: can this be a symptom of failed Valve Cover? Whay is different when starting engine warm? Does vacuum pump run stronger? I would like to understand problem before "throwing parts into a car". Thank you and best regards! Last edited by rogacp; 09-09-2022 at 09:54 PM.. |

I am trying to diagnose an issue with my car, which has similar sounds but under slightly different triggers. (Car warm/hot, and only while car is facing down him and I am braking) |

I replaced the valve cover and the symptom went away. I don't understand, how a mechanical part can fail in way electronic parts usually fail... But that was that.

From OP "... The PCV system is connected to the intake in 2 places: before and after the turbo -- so there is always a source of vacuum available. A simple one-way valve on each of these routes ensures that air can only flow out of the crankcase, never in...."
You replaced the PCV valve, but from the OP's pictures and description, N55 valve cover has also 2 one-way valves (check valves). Those probably were not sealing when they needed to also, or were stuck sealed when they should have opened. Cold vs warm may have been contributing how they misbehaved. |

I just bought a 2011 335i a week ago with this noise. Ordered PCV valve from Amazon, replaced it, the old one, it did have a hole. The sound was still there, but was not as loud.
A few days prior, I checked the valve cover bolts I could see, and one on the front was very loose. Before I replaced the valve cover I thought I would check all of the valve cover bolts, sure enough two more were loose. I tightened them, and the noise is gone and has stayed gone. The torque on the bolts is minimal, check the specs before you tighten them, or you might be replacing one. Just thought this might help someone in the future |

So I cut open that crankcase vent to replace the cap/diaphragm. Without really thinking about it, I chucked the spring. I figured its always good to replace a worn spring and that it would be simple to obtain a replacement when I ordered the rest of the parts. Now I can't find that specific spring anywhere. All the kits that I've seen specifically for the N55 just come with the cap/diaphragm, no spring. Just wondering if anyone knows where to get this spring at or if you know of a functional alternative. Would really appreciate any help - I'm kind of stuck without it.
