why the circuit diagram doesn't look correct? It makes prefect sense to me.
The LCI paddles are not just a connection to the ground (pin#2) anymore. LCI cars use different current between pin1&3 to detect whether the paddles are installed, up shift or down shift. If pin1&3 are not connected with correct current then the car will think you don't have paddles and prevent you using the DS mode. That's why when you installed DCT paddle your paddles and DS mode will not work. all I did is built a plug&play harness with those resistors and connect it between the DCT paddes and MF buttons. Everything including DS mode works for me. Last edited by wanlong; 12-22-2011 at 03:20 PM.. |

Definitely does NOT work by directly wiring the paddles into the other wiring harness and grounding the other wire...
However, cutting the M3 paddle wires and splicing in the correct resistors in the right configuration DOES work. Finally got my M3 paddles working in my 2011 e90. If you need this done, I have extra materials. PM me. |

That's exactly how the internals of your LCI paddles look, good work.
This procedure is only necessary for cars with LCI paddles from the factory, and may (possibly) be avoided if you were to use pre-LCI MF buttons for paddles. The signal from pre-LCI paddles (or DCT paddles) and pre-LCI MF buttons for paddles are: (resistance between the two up/downshift wires, i.e. 2+4 on slip ring connector and 4+6 on MF button connector) (null) - 3.2 k upshift - 1k downshift - 0.33k The LCI paddles I believe have the same result, i.e. completed by resistors inside pre-LCI MF buttons. Just a theory... |

Not sure why they made it slightly more complicated this way... |

Before I will change the wiring by adding the resistors into the harness, I'm planning to see if replacing the multifunction buttons from my car by the original MF buttons and harness from a M3 will do the trick.
Pleased to hear your thoughts/ideas! |

Each of the 2 wires is from each separate paddle, so there are distinct signals for each paddle if that makes sense. Just being explicit since the pre-LCI SSG paddles had push/pull and 4 wires get spliced into 2 in before leaving the steering wheel. |

Be careful not to have your airbag/slip ring harness disconnected with the battery connected as you'll need to reset airbag warning lights if you do! I have circuitry from M3 MF buttons if you want it (everything except the black covers and physical buttons) and I'd be happy to give it to you just for shipping, but it will probably be expensive and take long to EU. |

Hello,
I have a 2009 msport car with msport steering wheel that has push/pull paddles. I just bought a 2011 M3 steering wheel that just has left - and right + paddles. Can I get the M3 steering wheel to work with my car? I read the earlier posts but was completely lost. |

Is this modification needed only for pre-LCI cars or for all cars? I have 2010 320d LCI (does not come with paddles from factory)

Anybody try this on the M3 Performance (non-elec) steering wheel with blue stripe? You can order with DCT paddles for $30 more. I would like to do this swap for my E90 LCI w/Msport paddles.

If you want DCT paddles to work properly, you should solder in resistors following the schematic posted earlier in the thread. This makes no sense. You're most likely seeing it 'for' DCT paddles, not 'with' DCT paddles. |

I have pre-LCI Paddle MFB circuitry (you'll need to swap over your plastic casings + buttons which isn't too difficult) that anyone here can have for shipping.
If one of you has an LCI and wants to use DCT paddles, try it out and let everyone else know if it works! |

Tried replacing the multifunction buttons and harness with the original ones from a M3 yesterday to work with the DCT paddles. Unfortunately no succes. I guess there is also something in the software. For the time being I chose the same path as CJP5 and swapped my LCI paddles off of my M sport wheel for the DCT paddles on the M3 wheel. I don't feel confident enough yet to solder the resistors into the harness of the DCT paddles myself. I still have two new sets M3 DCT paddles available...
