Ok guys, got some good news, and some bad news. Which do you want first?

Bad News
After spending the past few days with the engineer and the floor manager, the backlog of work on our machines has reached the point where we are working at 150% of our current capacity. What this means is that, until our new machines arrive at the end of this year, we won't be able to put the new ring & pinions into production

Because of this, instead of making you guys have to wait another few months, we now have no choice but to temporarily cancel this pre-buy for the new ring & pinions.

Good News
We already have the MT fitment LSD in stock, and the DCT/335d fitment LSD is still on schedule for end of Aug.

What this means is that, instead of offering a new ring & pinion and several price points (based on numbers of buyers), instead, we will now have only 1 price point (what was originally the 20+ price) and we will machine and modify an oem ring & pinion for you instead so that it will bolt up to the new LSD.

So instead of having to wait till our back-log has cleared up, we will start offering the following within the next few weeks (we still need to make new ring gear spacers and bolts):

Fitments:
- 135i/335i MT Apr '07+ with 3.08 Final Drive
- 135i/335i DCT with 2.56 Final Drive
- 335d with 2.81 Final Drive

Rebuild Service: Not applicable to Europe/Australia
- Add $500 if you send us your entire pumpkin first, and we will rebuild it with the new LSD. Includes return shipping within the mainland US (+$100 for Canada).

e.g You send us your MT pumpkin. We will fully recondition your pumpkin and rebuild with the new LSD. Total Cost: $1779.96

- Additional $500 core exchange applies if we ship you a rebuilt pumpkin first (subject to availability). Refundable after we receive your old pumpkin back

e.g We ship you a fully reconditioned MT pumpkin with LSD first. Total Cost: $2279.96. After you install your new MT pumpkin, ship back your old pumpkin to us, and we will refund $500 to you

I must apologise sincerely for getting everyones hopes up with regards to the new ring & pinions, and I have tried my best to get our production line to get these done, but the reality is that we just don't have the capacity at present to make them

Thanks for being straightforward about it and letting us know upfront what is going on.

I'm curious why its $500 more to do a pumpkin for pumpkin exchange. Also, do we need new seals/gaskets etc. and does what you are offering include everything needed for the install?

The $500 is a core exchange charge, which is refundable, so there is no price increase.

If we do the rebuild for you, this includes all seals and bearings, otherwise, it would just be the LSD, modified ring gear and bolts

I'm looking if I can do the machining myself,
how much would the LSD only be (MT 3.08), shipped to Europe?

What's the approx. weight of a diff and pinion, to calculate shipping costs?

Spacer ring?

When I look at your different options I see nothing about a spacer ring, is that correct?

I mean if you would machine a complete ring gear (what you can't do for the moment) ,
you could build it to exactly fit.
But now as you are removing the ring gears from the open diffs isn' t there still the need for spacer ring?

Wavetrac offers such a kit for a whopping 700$, that's why I ask this question!

Or is your core engineered differently to make such a spacer ring not necessary when using a machined ring from a std diff?

From all of your options, do they come preadjusted or is there the need for more hardware wich could be difficult to obtain (C-clamps?)

Any chance of getting the correct measures for machining myself once I buy only the diff?

That's a lot of questions, but it would be nice if you could answer these.

Yes, this is why it will still be a few weeks even for the oem ring & pinions, as we need to make the new spacers and ring gear bolts.

The only thing you will need to adjust (apart from the spacer after machining the oem ring gear) are the diff shims to set the correct backlash. All other parts can be re-used (you will need new oil seals though)

The measurements will be different depending on who is doing your machining. Our spacer will be made specifically for the ring gears that we machine, so really just depends on your machining tolerances.

  1. Would it be possible to get a price for the LSD with an install kit (e.g., new seals and bearings etc.)?
  2. Alternatively, can you provide the BMW part numbers (or other source) for the seals, bearings etc.?
  3. My local garage, who said they can handle the install, asked whether it comes with shims.

1 & 2) You can purchase the relevant bearings/seals from ECS Tuning, or from your local BMW Dealership (not sure about the diff bearings though)
3) It doesn't come with shims, as you will only know what size shims to use when you are installing the LSD. We just use Domestic shims and machine them to size.

Hi Stephen. We've been emailing back and forth today. As you know, looking for a full pumpkin with a 2.81 gear ratio.

We're building up our stock of cores, and the spacers and bolts are on schedule for the end of this month.

Once we have everything in place, it only takes us 1-2 days to rebuild the core.

Payment sent. Not sure why no one else is jumping on this stupendous deal - less than half of what it would cost for a 3.46 M/T LSD anywhere else. Its a great price on just the LSD but the fact that is a 3.46 makes it a ridiculously good deal.
