That is correct. It's a cheap part to get and easy to replace.
Also, check your EGTs to make sure in range.

I took it to the dealer twice when warranty, and the didn't find it, until I got my bpc tune and it whistled under boost.

Is that a turbo gasket, if such a piece exists?

Thanks to this group and thread!!

I used to have 2011 335d - sold it about 3 years ago when I moved countries. Now I am back in LA and just bought another 2011 335d!! It’s awesome, but this just happen (smell and leaking noise).

Wouldn’t you know it, I look here and then look under the hood, and the back pressure sensor pipe is blown apart.

I plan to replace it, and hope to discover that’s all it was.

Since you're hearing an usual sound from the passenger side during acceleration, and smelling something like fuel, these might be damaged or loose (and are in the right area you're hearing the new sound). When the car does post injection to heat things up, and if one or both of those hoses came loose or melted or ... it could smell like raw fuel.
This ^ I had my DP hoses explode due to high DP across the DPF. Smelled raw fuel and the motor sounded very different, but not sucking.

I? didn't take the turbo all the way off but loose enough to swap the gaskets out.
I? had two loose bolts and one of mine was missing too.

I made the same unpleasant discovery on my 2011 but other members counseled me that while it looks odd, this is actually normal.
