Q: Who you need to inform about your vehicle wrap?
A: Yes DVLA You are legally required to inform the DVLA that your vehicle has undergone a colour change, using the V5C form. You’ll need to select the most appropriate colour from the following list: beige, blue, maroon, red, bronze, cream, multi, silver, brown, green, orange, turquoise, black, gold, purple, white, grey, pink and yellow. Insurance It is important that you tell your insurance company that you have had your vehicle fully wrapped or part wrapped. If your wrap does get damaged and you need to make a claim, your insurer will be aware of the costs of replacing the wrap. From totally dynamics web site |

And from the 3m website
3M supply a wide range of coloured vinyl car wrapping films so now you can change the colour of your car anytime you want. The DVLA see car wrapping as reversible, meaning, that they don't need to be informed helping reduce the hassle of changing the colour of your car. You do still have to tell your insurers though as it can be seen as a modification by some. |

Ok I retract my previous post I was right but now I'm not. As of 2014 it has changed
e DVLA have updated their advice regarding the registration of full colour change vehicle wraps. The DVLA have previously not considered vehicle wrapping as a permanent alteration but have now changed the requirements to include vehicles that have had their colour changed by adhesive / vinyl wrap. The following statement had been issued by the DVLA :- The register maintained by the driver and vehicle licensing agency (DVLA) essentially exists to assist in revenue collection, road safety and law enforcement. The Police and other enforcement agencies rely on the DVLA record for all vehicles-related investigations. It is therefore paramount that the information stored on the vehicle register is accurate and up to date. DVLA records details given by vehicle manufacturers at first registration. Any changes to the vehicles details must be notified to DVLA by law. By covering the entire vehicle in a coloured adhesive/vinyl wrap, it is DVLA’s view that the colour change should be recorded. To notify a change of colour you should complete section 7 of the registration certificate V5C and return it to DVLA Swansea SA99 1BA. You should receive a replacement certificate within two to four weeks. We would like to advice any owner of a vehicle that has had a full colour change wrap that they should inform the DVLA by completing the correct paperwork. Partial wraps and digital printed wraps do not appear to be affected. For any further information can by obtained from the DVLA on 0843 515 8104. |

My friend used a metallic blue from 3m. They have since slightly modified the colour and no longer sell the original colour. Bad news for him as he had to get sections replaced and it did not match. 3M said they would consider re-wrapping the whole car but did not follow through. Its worth checking to make sure future availability in case you need to replace sections that are damaged.
You can get custom printed colours from Totally Dynamics. They keep a record of the colour and a sample so they can rematch it. No other wrapper does this as far as I know. |
