Ah, to have been a fly on the wall at the engineering and management meetings where the several R&D versions of the N54 were discussed...

Nice!
So there has been a lot of talk of Dinan being smoother than stock (no jerkiness at take-off). I have V2 Procede and it is perfectly smooth (so much so that I don't know if it is on or not - until I push the pedal down a bit further Guys, this is the marvelous thing about the N54: it is not just tunable, but it LOVES to be tuned. The turbos spool so quickly that it basically drives like an NA engine (albeit one that makes ridiculous amounts of torque at 2500 rpms). A buddy of mine who drives a Ferrari F430 switched with me and was shocked at what a "monster" the 335i V2 was. It quite honestly makes almost all other turbo engines look laggy, gutless, and pathetic. I have a Legacy GT (reflashed) that is pretty ballsy, but absolutely gutless below 2000 (like, it can barely climb a steep driveway because it makes no torque below 2000 in 1st gear). It also gets worse gas mileage! BMW has found the holy grail in engine design with direct injection plus small turbos plus relatively large displacement engine and they are well ahead of the competition in efficiency, HP, torque, smoothness, flexibility, and tunability. Just wait until their 4.4L TT V8 comes out!!

Bad news guys,
FED EX screwed me and the overnight that was sent to Dinan on wednesday has not reached them yet. They tell me it will get to Dinan monday and that I will have my car on tuesday. Needless to say that they are reimbursing me for the shipping (both ways) but this is a major inconveniece and a real bummer since I am without my car for the weekend and I need to find transportation (again) for Monday and Tuesday. Sorry guys but no Dyno this weekend... I want to cry. |

Well, I've been screwed more than a couple of times by Fedex. I talked to a Dinan dealer in Glendale, and they told me they refuse to use Fedex, cause they are always screwing up. So he said he had a huge fight with Dinan, so they would allow him to use California Overnight, and the relunctantly agreed. They also told me they would pay for the shipping. I haven't decided if I want to go with Dinan just yet though...

And for info on versions with different size turbos? There is a ton of really cool R&D stuff like ceramic engine blocks etc. For a job at BMW AG R&D it would definitely be worth the work to get a Ph.D in materials science or other relevant engineering discipline. I keep hoping they will have a need for some hormone research. I wonder if Fleet ever got a job? Hard times, what with all the job cuts just announced at BMW.

You had to pay for the ECU shipping? Or is it factored into the $1999 price of the flash? |

I have no complaints about how BMW AG stock has performed over the past decade, especially given that it's in Euros Probably should have sold it off in May though when it was up over 50...

The Canadian dollar will likely be below par (vs US greenback) very soon .... oh wait ,,,, lookie here, CDN $$ now trading at 99.85 (15/100ths below US buck).
The Canadian economy gets hammered when our (Canadian) dollar higher than the US $$ .... so watch for the Bank of Canada to continue lowering our prime *interest* rate in response to Bernanke and the FED lowering the US fed rate. Speaking of which, with the terrible US employment numbers out this morning, when is Bernanke going to step in and cut the Fed rate again ... ? |

A bit of good news: It seems like after a lot of complaining, FED EX got the package to Dinan ealier today (Friday) so in theory they should have shipped it back and I should have my car Monday afternoon. I will post the initial review and impressions and I will then Dyno the car on Saturday to compare to my base Dyno. I hope it is worth all the money and the inconveniece of being without my car for almost a week.
