Oops, I totally misspoke. Of course the mitsus are internal. :embarrassed: Kind of obnoxious given I've owned them since 2001.

be sure not to confuse the direct injection, which "ticks" with this failure.
Has anyone found a good way to confirm the diagnosis, short of taking the turbos out ? SJ |

If you don't hear in on RPM decelleration, then you don't have this problem. It's brutally obvious when you listen for it. Very loud buzz. |

I have to agree, that it is "brutally obvious" and it pretty much impossible to miss. I have the same problem, you rev up to about 3k or 4k and as the RPM's settle the clicking is apparent.
I took my car to the service department here at the BMW dealership in Ontario CA, and they gave me a call at 4:30pm (dropped off at 7am) and told me that the problem is definitely the wastegate. They have ordered the part and will receive it on wednesday. They estimate that they will be done replacing the part this friday and if not by friday by the following monday for sure. I may pick up the car tomorrow morning if I get the chance so I can record the sound and post it up for everyone, but I don't want to give everyone too much hope since I may not be able to pick it up. For anyone that has the same problem I suggest you take it to your dealer and tell them that other dealers are taking care of the problem promptly. I will get back to this thread with more information as I am informed! Good luck to everyone! |

PS: The clicking noise that I had is pretty much identical to the video posted above by AU335, except my clicking was not as "loud" during idle, but definitely the same as the "revving" portion of the video. |

Hooray another problem for our cars to experience. First fuel pumps, sometimes injectors, now wastegates?
I have noticed the clicking noise on startup a little but the it goes away until it is barely audible. 3K rev and same thing, kinda loud for 1 sec, then sounds fine, nothing like AU is experiencing. Good luck getting everything fixed guys, I too am stock for now until I have the time to remove the rest of my mods to bring it into the dealer .

If you hear the beginnings of this sound just take it in, but make sure you request a technician to come out so you can demonstrate the sound and that way it is documented that the technician heard it. Dealers can be tricky and will sometimes say that they couldn't "replicate" the sound and just give the car back without doing anything to it. This has happened to me a couple of times and it makes me really mad. So now I always request a technician to come out and discuss the problem with me. Good luck! |

Just got my car back from the dealer. Took longer than expected, approximately 9 days. I have posted all the specifics including my service form with all the parts that were ordered and replaced. The ticking noise/rattling is completely gone so far. Check out the other thread where I posted this information. I hope it can be useful

I wasn't as concerned about that as I was people not being confused about the turbos on this car. |

Just wondering if this is inevitable for all cars. Can anyone post how many miles they have that does not have this problem. Just curious if anyone has 15000 + miles and no wastegate problems.

damn that's good to here. I know your car doing well does not mean mine will do well but it is still nice to hear some people doing ok. My car has RR dp's so I hear the turbos whine easily but no strange sounds on decel. Car has some clicking at idle but I think it is just the direct injection. Either way I find myself leaning over like O-cha said listening all the time. My neighbors look at me like what the hell is he doing. Car is doing well but I am slightly paranoid now. Thanks
