not nearly so much on the E90s as on the E46s.

I'd heard and read of the e46 problem - not known or read about an e90 320d turbo go yet though. If anyone has, please feel free to post the link.
Any further news on your car Tony? I'm amazed at the amount of issues it has!

More on the E46 than the E90 I think, maybe partly due to age and mileage. The swirl flaps can let go and depending on your luck you might get away with a partial implosion or the engine swallowing some of it and generally lunching itself.

I'm amazed too Paul! But I am sure that once this round is fixed, there's nothing much more that can possibly go wrong...?!!!! Well, here's hoping... No more updates further to my last post... repairs moving on very quickly - they haven't even waited to investigate before ordering replacement parts.. replacements were ordered yesterday on spec and almost all have already arrived today.. Initial thoughts that the car would take a while to be repaired, possibly two weeks, but I might even get it back before the weekend now... fingers crossed!

To be fair, it has been the dealer who have taken the initiative and given the impetus for urgency... they haven't had pressure from BMW UK, yet!

Yup, I'm in a 2008 model 520d SE, with the new auto box and the 177hp engine.... trying to get used to the fact that it has averaged 43mpg over the last two days of me driving it...?!

So, what's next on the menu...? TBH there's not a huge amount more I want to do.. the running gear is all sorted, with rollbars, front brakes, diff... no point doing the rear brakes as it's just a waste of money. ECU upgrade? Most probably, though I'd want to make sure everything is running fine before committing to a power boost. Also I want to see what Simon @ Emaps comes up with as a solution to the ECU encryption...

I would argue the contary, just because a call sells well doesnt make it any less prestigious, but it will lose its exclusivity. in my book 335i m sports are not common so its fine by me, If anything Audi (don't know why I am talking abiut Audi - just a comparsion ) look like they will be selling a shed load this year, anycar in any niche. (if i see another 2.0tdi a4 drop top in Teddington!!! arghh!!) but just because I see 10 every day, doesn't make the car any less prestigious, but it is as common as muck. I must say a few years back I drove my boss'es TT to a garage in Epsom and THAT one signle experience put my off Audi for life, the crashing and banging and interior quality put me off (I had a mondeo!) BMW sell well because on the whole they are good quality desirable cars. The majority of lottery winners buy BMW over other any brand Last edited by dazzapb; 02-07-2008 at 03:28 AM.. |

Not per se but a few are having issues on the 1 series with the newer 177bhp 2.0d. Wait and see is probably the only way. The E46 2.0d is a known issue (as is the 3.0d I believe as far as turbos and manifolds go).
We're all potentially in the shit to some degree!!!!! Tony, Good to hear that things are moving and I admire your restraint and cold hard logic during what must be an emotively charged time. All the best. |

.. a lot.
You could also look at someone like warranty direct. If you are a member of the BMW Car Club you get a discount. I'm not sure of the exact level, but after this and a bit of wrangling I got cover for the E46 for less than my sister did for her (then) Skoda Fabia! Needless to say they are also far cheaper than the BMW insured warranty.

The agent didn't have the Car Club discount at hand, but offered warranty for my 330i for just over £300, which turned out to be cheaper than the price with the Car Club discount. The warranty provides improved cover over BMW's own warranty anyway, so it's not really a problem if you finish with BMW's. I can PM details of the bloke I spoke to. Mentioning that I sent you might be of benefit to me also. Viv |
