Possibly, but the gear holding on wasn't excessively long either. The fuel cons was markedly worse.....well the needle moved more than I thought it would for the type of run I did.

Looks like you all in the UK are not experiencing it.
The US 335d's definitely smell!! I wondered what that smell was the first time I experienced it. Even when driving at highway speeds you can smell it and you can also verify by checking the coolant temp through the OBC trick reading, it reaches near 100 celcius. Its happened to me only 4-5 times in 4k miles. If you stop, the cooling fans also stay on.
There is a huge thread somewhere on this forum about it with US drivers experiencing it.

I get a smell fro the rear of my car sometimes which is similar to burning rubber, it'sthe same smell I got from my Cotreon C5 2.2 which had the particulate filter with elyos fluid injected into it

Haven't noticed mine 'holding' onto gears but then nearly always in manual mode. It deos have a burning smell from the rear sometimes when I put it in the garage. A caramel type smell as others have described.
