So, I brought my car to BMW dealer today and they are going to look at the issues:
Oil filter housing leak Valve cover leak Power steering cap leak They gave me a free 316 loan car this time, last week was a mini D This F series 316 has all the options ticked such as: Lane departure, anti collision, blind spot, head up display, comfort access, full parking sensor with bird eye view, etc. I really love the comfort access, have been trying to find a 335 with this option. My 335 will be with them for a few days as they said, hopefully they are going to fix the leakages. *I want to start a topic: what loan car have you been offered? Really want to know if anyone lucky enough to be offered a nice powerful car.. |

Should have had the car checked before the purchase, you could have used these issues to bargain a better price.

I was told that those leakages are common on the N54...is that true though?
If so, I will comfort myself like I have saved some money by getting BMW to replaced all these gasket for me. |

Common leaks, saves you from doing it later. People keep talking about pre purchase inspection for some reason? He bought from a BMW dealer and they're fixing the stuff for free under warranty. No big deal.

Tried to get a quote for the sunroof seal today too, they said they can only change the whole sunroof and questioned me where do I get the sunroof seal from.
They said that here in Aus, if you want to change the seal, you have to change the whole sunroof. ==' I am going to get a quote from a workshop then. |

Rattle rattle, being like that for over a year now with almost 20,000km. Quote:
Going to see another shop for advice tommorrow. Same with power steering cap, I can always see some fresh oil stains near the back of the cap, probably just buy a new cap from BMW and see if that fixes it. Quote:
I've comfort access on my car and it seems like the only option the previous owner ticked when he/she ordered it from BMW Melbourne as otherwise my car is pretty much poverty spec...

I haven't taken the car back, going to do so on Monday.
I am reading all those articles regarding the wastegate rattle recently. It seems like the rattle will reduce the performance of the car and will damage the oem turbo. For those who are experiencing the wastegate rattle, why would you just leave the rattle exist and not to rectify it? or is the wastegate rattle can be ignored? what about the 30FF code? you just clear it? I know that rectifying the rattle is very expensive - replacing both 2 turbo claimed by BMW...but isn't it will only endanger the turbos life if not to fix the rattle? |

The former doesn't really cause much issue, maybe a fraction of a second slower at boost building (doubt anyone can tell the difference, except maybe at a track and comparing data logs), the only issue is the horrible noise. The latter will cause boost holding issues and if bad enough will cause the dreaded 30ff low boost code. Considering you gotta remove/replace the stock turbos usually for a permanent fix, I personally would just leave it unless you're constantly getting 30ff codes. |

But make sure the low boost is actually caused by the failing wastegate(s), stuff like cracked vacuum hoses and or broken pressure charge converters will also cause low boost error codes.
I had 30FF code before which was caused by a cracked oem vacuum house under one of the vacuum canister. |

I was reading something about the wastegate recently and just want to learn more about it. so, if the wastegate is faulty causing the rattle, the only resolution is to replace the turbo, am I correct? (this is very expensive though) Wastegate rattling which means that the wastegate is not functioning properly, if you leave the rattle exists, I feel like apart from the turbo may eventually die, will that damage the engine as well? Just want to double confirm: wastegate is to regulate the pressure going into the turbo (Exhaust gas) BOV is to regulate the pressure going into the engine from charge pipe (intake air) correct? |

No waste gate rattle is because the actuator rod loosens over time and rattles. Timot recently posted a simple method to tighten up the rod and fix the problem. No need to replace the turbos etc

Waste gate regulates pressure in turbos, BOV prevent damage to turbos by releasing excess pressure for example when downshifting that's why you get the blow off sound when you take your foot off the acellarator
