Dinan Stage 3 Suspension

No, Dinan does not do any coilovers. Steve Dinan believes that coilovers belong race cars while springs and shocks belong on street cars. The exact quote can be found in this month's Roundel in which the Dinan S2 car is driven. The author asks Steve why he has never offered coilovers and his response is as I paraphrased.

Yes Steve Dinan, because there's such a huge difference between a matched spring and shock setup called a coilover and you using koni yellows and your own springs. The differences between a coilover setup and what dinan offers is simple...one requires a company to manufacture their own parts in conjunction with the other, the other allows a company (Dinan) to just use another company's adjustable shocks in conjunction with their springs. It's cheaper and requires less R&D. If you think people don't run koni yellows on the track any less than they do coilovers, you're nuts.

Has anyone measured the front ride height (or distance between the fender and center of thier wheel) before and after the Dinan suspension install on a 335i coupe?

I can't believe he would say something like this. A coilover set up is just like having a factory suspension set up. The springs are made to work specifically with the shocks. The only difference is the quality of the material and the infinite adjustability of various parameters.

Thanks Orb. That's helpful.

Then the Dinan front drop post-install should yield a ~352.5mm fender edge to wheel center, using Dinan's 1/2" drop quote. IMHO, that would be perfect!

Problem is, the front after my Dinan Stage 1 install is only 359ish.

Do springs actually settle? Maybe I need a few more miles on mine.

It's only been 250 miles.

am I crazy or couldn't that buy you KW V3s (or other really nice coilovers), UUC Swaybarbarians (or other really nice sway bars), and KMAC camber plates (or other camber plates)....giving you more adjustability and probably better performance all for the same price....

Absolutely they do. And not just from leaving the car in your garage. Take it to the track and drive the wheels off it. My KW V3's settled over 15mm on the rear after several track sessions.

It's only been 250 miles.

The springs don't settle at all these days as they are preset. The amount of seating will depend on how well the spring where seated in the rubber perches. It most cases the seating of the spring in the rubber perches only settle 1-4 mm. I would give it more time as they will fully seat at some point. I think Dinan motioned the drop is about 9.5 mm in total.

I wonder if the settling is a combination of small things, a little spring, a little shock, a little bit drivetrain. It all added up tot the 15 mm.

Next time you should drive it harder.
