I was in a stop and go traffic situation bumper to bumper traffic yesterday for about 8 miles. DCT transmission temperature peaked to 202 degrees F according to MHD monitor readings. Never got the transmission overheat warning however I did get the avoid stop and go warning when I was trying to overtake and kickdown button was activated. It essentially bogged the car down and kept it in the same gear rather then downshifting. It's the first time I ever got the message but I guess it can happen. Car was in D mode since it was bumper to bumper traffic. I usually drive the car in manual mode 98% of the time and never got the warning. My assumption is in automatic D mode the stop and go is a lot smoother (without the jerkiness in 1st gear) compared to manual mode and to achieve that the clutches give more slack/slip which definitely generates more heat.
