Currently BMS catless DP, ER CP, and that's about it. I removed everything else for now.
I will be doing the entire outer perforated pipe. Some people just do one side.

zerotosixty did one side and really likes it. If I didn't buy a PE and had to mod my own I think I would only do one side(you can always do the other later. You could also do the side with the vacuum flapper.

I am doing one side, but apparently, there are people only doing half the pipe. You have to cut both sides of the muffler (top and bottom) to access the under part. Or, you have to cut the bottom where it leads to the exhaust tip.

I'm curious as to the sound difference you're going to get. I went to my exhaust shop yesterday and they told me it would take 3-5 hours to do both sides properly because of all the welding. Would be cheaper if I just did the one.

Sorry, if I confused you. I am doing both sides of the muffler, but only one piping within each canister.

WTF 5 hours? With a smoke break every 10 minutes or something? Find out what their hourly rate is...

I would switch muffler shops. They are screwing you. I wasn't worried to go to a random unknown shop to get it done. It's not rocket science and with the tools a basic muffler shop has, it is a piece of cake. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

LOL yea and I'd probably have to pay for the pack of cigarettes too. Hourly rate is $95...

I thought their quote was ridiculous but I didn't really have anything to go off of and I don't know much about welding. I'm going to shop it around.

I bought my PE used for $600...5 hours at 95 + tax shit is about the same.

Angle grinder to cut a hole, sawzall to cut straight pipe out. Then cut a piece of stock the same size, weld in pipe, weld in cover, repeat.

An exhaust shop should not charge $95 an hour. That is more than most average mechanics from my experience.

I'll look around. I have both a grinder and sawzall and I'd honestly consider doing that part myself and having one of my friends weld it if they think they're capable.

Or bring it to a shop w/ half the work done. There are DIYs online. Then all you tell a shop is put a straight pipe in here and weld, just make sure you leave enough material for them.

Wow that's a great price. I feel like when it comes to all things car related, things in Canada just seem to be priced higher.

That's a great price I was quoted $600 by a place that"supposedly" does this for BMW's.

You can get an IS exhaust or used PE for that price All you need is a competent muffler shop. No need to use a shop that specializes in BMWs.

Interesting enough, I think the PE mod is louder. I believe with us removing and adding the packing, it may have adjusted the tone a bit.
