There are stage 3 kits out there that can do 700+whp, still just new. Stop being so argumentative. Stage 2 can get 550whp and you don't have to worry about blowing your motor. And the N55 is significantly more reliable.

Yea if your n54 is stock, then they would walk on you. But my n54 kills supercharged mustangs, heck I even killed a hellcat. Plus I will not say they are 10x more reliable, i would say mustangs are actually worst. People that I know from car meets all have problems with mustangs.

N54 is by no means a perfect motor. But there is a reason it has such a strong following even with its problems and the n55 doesn't. The n55 is slightly, slightly more reliable. A regular 328 moreso. But if you're not interested in tapping its potential and want some additional reliability, then an n55 is a decent alternative. Just beware that an abused n55 will be much less reliable than a well maintained n54 so get one that's cherry.

I'm not interested in making crazy power, if you read the first few posts of this thread. I just want a quick daily, and I'm not interested in much more than upper 300's, maybe 400. I get how much power an N54 can make and I know after throwing some money at an N54 they are pretty reliable. My debate was throw that money at an older car (my current one, with an N54) or put it towards a newer car with awd, and better looks, and reliability that'll be almost as fast as my current car. This was not intended to be is the N54 vs N55 dickswinging competiton

Ignorance at its finest. There are Xdrives in the 10's. And how can you think the pre-lci front end it better looking with the stuck on top pieces to the grill and droopy headlights? N55 also has a lot of maintenance issues fixed from the N54. N54 does have more turbo output from the factory, but throw on a PS2 and you are golden.

Skip it and go with the PS2. PS1 is the turbo it should have come with stock, but the PS2 is where 95% of us want to be.

Agreed, swapping out my PS1 for stage 2 by the end of the year.

Not shooting for a 10 sec car, just a quick daily. I did test drive an x drive N55, with full bolt ons and JB4 this last weekend. Honestly, it did feel pretty damn slow, compared to my rwd fbo e40 N54. I'm sure an e30 map would bring it up to par with stage 2 on 91 though. And, 4-5 months of the year, I'm running stage 1 and snow tires where I live, so it's not like it would matter THAT much. Seems like it had all the typical BMW problems, vcg, ofhg, vanos, waterpump, and plugs and coils just like the N54 though. Honestly it didn't win me over, but I still am just lusting for AWD after how much snow I dealt with this last winter

My FBO N55 E90 w/ E40 ran the same 1/8 times as my E92 FMIC+DCI E30. I'm sure once you go 1/4 the my old E92 would have won, but by how much really?
JB4 alone on pump gas is slow on a N55. Throw some E into the mix and get a BEF and it's completely different car. My .02

The high HP rwd cars light the tires up in 3rd gear and higher, that is where the Xi shines. They still spin in 1st, but in 2nd they are gone. The awd system isn't on the Evo or GTR level, but it isn't extremely weak either. There are a few things in the works to help it out too. The stock t-case mount setup sucks. Anyway, back to the original post...
