Telling people they are inhuman without knowing the situation is a bit premature. Come home to a house that's been ran sacked and your dog shot while being gone an hour...and see if these kinds of comments don't bother you.

My dog was not in the crate when we were robbed (I was working from home by then...so he was only in his crate when he wanted to be...same as my female pit later on). I seriously doubt the kids that robbed my house would have shot him while he was in the kennel. Remy was very protective of his home. IF you've owned enough dogs, you know that each one learns in their own way, so you have to manipulate situations to teach them certain things. Each dog has their own ticks. One or two things they are stubborn about.

All my dogs were house broken in a day. Remy was by far the smartest. I couldn't say truck, ride, lets go, outside, are you ready?....or spell many of those words because he would figure it out. He probably knew a good 400 words. He could sit, speak, roll over, lay down, watch the front door, attack, watch em. If I made a skkkkkk noise, he'd go after whatever I was looking it. I could say "kennel up" and he'd go in the kennel. I could say "what's that?" and he'd start growling and check the house. He slept on a 8" foam dog bed at the foot of mine or in his kennel if he so chose. So before you call people inhuman...use that head of yours. Nothing childish or inhuman about kennel training a dog.

Again, kennel training for specific instances is fine and understandable. Doing it everyday? No, because that's more for your convenience than for the dog that the dog now has to put up with.

If given a choice, no animal will choose extended confinement every single day over free range. That's all I'm getting at. I understand individual differences in owners, dogs, circumstances, etc.

With my last dog, I did. With the one before that, no because she would just break out of the metal cage! So I said f it & let her roam free all day. She didn't do anything wrong so no issues.

I crate my younger dog, but mostly because it's for his protection. My other dog, the 12 yr old husky doesn't do much other than sleep. I don't want him to get into anything while I'm out. Plus it rarely happens for long extended periods of time. Now that the wife and I are in the new house we can let the dogs run around in the back yard while we are home. They are much happier now.

We crate trained our lab puppy. He loves the crate. He willing goes in it to sleep when the door is left open. It was mostly for sleeping at night and maybe 1-2 hours during the day. We are transitioning him to a doggy bed now.

I think crating a dog for 4+ hours during the daylight is excessive. I think an indoor play pen would be better.

Rover.com is your friend when you need someone to watch the dog. I have had good experiences with everyone I have used thus far.

"Athlete" and multiple dog pens makes me think pitbulls and dog fighting, so many athletes are absolute pieces of shit but I hope I'm wrong

Our boy is currently crated as our girl is in heat

I use a crate often, its a no brainer tool with working dogs, just like a shock

Neither of my dogs are crate trained. They have free range of most of the house while we are at work. Bella's held it for 24 hours when she decided that was preferable to going out in the rain. She's never been pee pad trained as she'll just hold it and hold it. Sophie, on the other hand, is usually good for 8 to 9 hours but sometimes taps out middle of the day and uses a pee pad. Luckily neither dog is destructive in any way; they just sleep on their beds or on the sofa. I keep my Nest cam on them during the day so I can run home if anything goes sideways.

First thing that popped into my head too. Man I hope that's not the case. I'm not a violent person but the thought of people fighting dogs to the death, using bait dogs, etc. makes me want to blow some sh*t up.

It's the chewing that gets her crated. I would prefer to let her roam, she has her little perches that she goes to when I'm home. But I cant trust her

Talk about sensitive... I had an Irish Setter that unlike most was as smart and sensitive as she was beautiful. everybody warned me they were dumb and unruly, but not this one.

One time she farted and my friend said "Ewww!" as the smell filled the room. From that day on if anybody said "ewww" about anything, the poor dog left the room with her head down.
