Glad you got it fixed OP.

Unfortunately, everything you mentioned above except for the sensor, is pretty much considered "routine maintenance" on this platform at this point...nothing new there.

At least the part that was giving you that last bit of trouble was cheap/easy to get to.

So I get the car back and everything is great. The car is driving well and everything seems normal. Next morning (Saturday) I start up the car and no fan! wonderful! Drove around that day, ran errands and usual things. No issues at all.

However come Sunday afternoon, I had left earlier that morning to run errands and parked the car for about 3 hours. Once I was finished I was heading home, driving normal speeds (45mph) and all of a sudden as I'm approaching a stoplight, the car starts to stutter (misfire style) I get the 1/2 engine light on the iDrive and the car now sounds like a lawnmower...

At this point, I'm in total disbelief and pull into a station so I can run the codes. I have a laundry list of codes (pictured) that don't make sense...Misfires on cylinders 1 3 5 and 6, super-knocking, camshaft timing, boost pressure..I mean are you fucking serious? WHY? WHAT? HOW?

I sit there quietly shaking my head thinking where I went wrong in life to deserve all of this at once lol

Clear codes, restart....No change
Clear codes, restart....No change again
Clear codes, let sit, restart...Codes clear but new ones appear (Boost Pressure control, deactivation and Variable camshaft timing control, intake cold start)

Finally, after several tries, I'm able to drive the car home and park it where it sat for the rest of the evening while I researched what is going on which lead me to forums like this and YouTube.

From what I read and understand, my VANOS is either dirty or failing (probably faining knowing my luck) and needs to either be cleaned or replaced. It appears that most people try and clean it first with engine degreaser and compressed air and see if that fixes the issue and if not, replace either one or both of the sensors.

I didn't have an opportunity last evening to do this and this morning I left for work and drove the car in a civilized manner to work
but I could feel the car once again didn't feel right.

To add insult to injury, as I'm driving home, I'm doing about 80mph on the highway, I go to pass a slow car and give the car some gas (not flooring it) and my Idrive gives me a fuel pump code but then it goes away, this happens about 4-5 times on my way home. I google it at a stoplight and it seems that others who upgraded their stock fuel pumps to the Fuel-it Stage 2 have had similar issues but turned out to be nothing of concern? I don't know whether or not mine is cause for concern or not (i did feel a slight reduction in power every time the code triggered)

So after everything I've been through the last two weeks, I'm now dealing with this.

UNBELIEVABLE...SERIOUSLY UNBELIEVABLE

I truly can't catch a single break

Did you swap VANOS cables by accident?

For mixture codes, how old are your primary O2s?

I can't remember...are you tuned? If so, pull a log. If not, buy MHD and pull a log.

I haven't tackled that yet so no
I'm going to get some compressed air and engine degreaser now.

Car is catless..

I am tuned, running MHD Stage 2+ V8 Beta maps
Car is FBO and everything was just checked during the 4 visits lol

I'll pull a log later today. Hopefully others can chime in for the mean time

So I'm having a hard time getting the VANOS I'll so I go on YouTube and watch some videos and I see a guy who removes the engine cover to get better access. OK Let's try that.

So I remove the engine cover and I just start looking around and I noticed there is some sort of liquid which might be fuel or oil I'm not sure located by the injectors (see photos)

Does anyone know what this is from or what this is or anything like that? I'm assuming this is probably not normal?

OK, so I was finally able to remove and clean both VANOS solenoids with engine degreaser and some canned air. With big hands, it was a pain in the ass but now everything is clean and back in the car.

Once I was finished I started up the car and everything sounded OK.
I drove around and got a feel for the car and everything felt good.
I then decided to do a couple of 3rd gear WOT pulls to see if any of the previous codes would reappear or if I would encounter anything out of the normal but nothing. The car pulled harder than a freight train and felt awesome. I haven't had a smile on my face this big in a long time when it comes to this car hah

I'm in the process of uploading the logs (I have 3) and ill upload as soon as they're ready.

You have superknock codes and some pretty nasty timing pulls. I would dial it WAY back until you figure out what's going on. I would suggest flashing stock or stage 1 91ACN. I've seen a handful of cars showing superknock and timing pulls on the V8 maps.
I don't think you have a bearing ledge problem, that's either 2a82 or 2a87. You may need new VANOS solenoids though. You have something weird going on...
I would try a new OEM VANOS solenoid on the intake side.

Is your fuel OK?

Id swap fuel filter, prefilling it with some gnarly additive (but of the "can be run up to 100%" variety)...

If codes disappear, ok
If codes AND symptoms disappear and then reappear after running fine for a bit --- dump out your fuel tank theres shit inside

Your oil cap is obviously leaking...replace it with the superseding part number.

This morning I switched to V7 (current maps) Stage 2 + 91 just to rule out things as I continue to downgrade the maps. I drove all the way to work moderately and once I got there I checked for codes and nothing had appeared. I wonder if all of this is related to the V8 maps? I'd like to pull another log this evening on the V7 maps and compare. Then switch to Stage 1 and do the same and finally stock.

As for the VANOS, I'm waiting to see if any related codes come back and if so; I'll replace but for now it appears the cleaning worked.

I've been using the same shell fuel for a long time. Never had fuel issues.
Wonder if the Stage 2 fuel it pump has anything to do with it?

The codes are shown in post #51, superknock codes were present 1-22-18.
The log in post #58 was also taken on 1-22-18. You can see timing pulls across all 6 cylinders throughout the log. Superknock codes plus timing pulls of more than 3 degrees signifies serious knock occurring.

BTW, if you could add RPM, low pressure fuel pressure, fuel trims, and rail pressure to the log, that would help considerably.

Ah, network at work was blocking images and I was on mobile so missed that. I’ve switched back to v7 after consistent timing pulls on the top end, across all maps (stg2+ 91, e30, and e50) zero timing pulls on v7 on e40 or 91 sti 2+...

How do I add those features while I make the logs?
