I have to say I'm really curious about what's going to happen to a leased car when its returned with the Dinan tune. There is a lot of information out there (not of the greatest quality) which suggests the relationship between Dinan and BMW is strained.
I don't know what to believe, but I'm finding it curious that I can't seem to get a straight answer from my SA that the Dinan flash WILL be ok on leased vehicles. All I'm getting is "it should be ok" or "we don't think it would be a problem". I need something in writing now I think - because this wishy washy stuff from the dealer is scaring me off Dinan. |

I called BMWFS just now actually. They told me pretty much what I expected to hear - Dinan will void my warranty (surprise!) but that I should check with the dealer whom I bought it from and if they're ok with accepting the car back at the end of the lease then I should be fine.
They did recommend getting it in writing. Anybody here get it in writing or are you making the assumption that if the dealer you bought from also did the Dinan work that that acknowledges acceptance and no need to get it in writing? |

If you are cool with your dealer, and they have a desire to have you as a return customer, they should be fine with it. |

Just checked dinan's site on the 135. Power is claimed to be the same between ecu versions. Sucky part is that we have to send the ecu to dinan for install.... |

magnuson act - if you do not break anything and they can not blame it on the ecu; how could they void your warranty?
You cannot void a warranty until there is reason to void a warranty for modifications on car parts. and if they let you return a car that has modified wheels (suspension warranty void, 19" never came on car, profile size difference), electrical system warranty void (different halo bulbs), exhaust warranty (different exhaust), electrical warranty (modified stereo)... all put back to stock with no damage, this is done every day on lease cars. There would be predjiduce(sp?) if they allowed one set of modifications to be put back in and others not. It's all grey market. Dinan is neither EPA nor CARB exempt. A dealer that installs dinan on your car is violating at least one federal law (tampering with emissions control device) and maybe california law (or other state laws). They are knowingly doing so on a car that is intended to drive on the street. Nobody has ever been tried for that as far as I have researched but it is very real. one day.. Which is why dealer/BMWFS will always turn an eye as long as things don't go all wrong..

sorry for reviving this thread but i have 2 questions...
I currently have stage 2 flash.
1) Before getting it, i had the tail lamp is out warning light. dealer said they fixed it by updating the software. now after the flash, the warning light is on again-and no bulbs are actually out. so what steve meant in the OP is that currently, i can either have the bulb-fix or the flash? obviously i can live with the warning light vs. taking out the flash but it is an annoyance. 2) i plan on installing the factory alarm and having the dealer "code" it to have all the features work. so does this mean my flash will be wiped and I have to have it redone? I didnt think the coding of the alarm would take the full 1 hour therefore i didnt think it would affect the flash part at all. I imagine this would be the same as getting any accessory installed that needs a software DL like ipod etc... has anyone had the flash and then either got the alarm coded and or bulb-fix? how did it affect the flash? |

I had the tail light malfunction and the stage 2 flash. One had no effect on the other. When they fixed the malfunction, the flash was fine and didn't need to be "reflashed". Or if it did, they did it without my knowledge. But everything was fine and in order when i picked up my car.

My bulbs weren't the problem. Whatever they did, they fixed it perfectly the 1st time. I think it may have been a faulty sensor as my light was never "out". but my flash was never effected at all. When I took my car in for service, I was told they have seen numerous "tail lamp malfunctions".
