That's why you usually hear people saying at least replace the entire bank, cyl 1-3 and 4-6.

Your Air Fuel Ratio is controlled by averaging the 3 cylinders exhaust gasses of 1 bank. So if you have 1 Cyl with an index 12 performing well with fuel atomization and the other 2 cylinders off, this can screw the AFR reading and you won't be fueling appropriately per bank since it's an average of the 3. You may be sending too much or too little fuel to that bank of cylinders as a result since it's just an average of the 3.

I understand folks are on a budget but there is really no reason to keep index 10 or less, they are all problematic injectors that can either leak or atomize poorly. Leaking injectors are arguably worse as it washes the oil and that's why you see a lot of crank bearing failures and such.

If the logic is all index numbers below 11 have a Poor spray pattern ,even new, then I get it.

If I heard you say "one older injector is bad then it's likely the whole set is failing." Ok, I get that as well.

Either way, that's not what BMW is saying.

Either of these senecrious do not look good for BMW, I like many others don't have enough miles on my car for these problems.

I just want the full story not just some corporate BS TSB designed to cover their backside. This is my second BMW and they are far from being the most reliable cars on the road. People need to call them out for this.

Its not really a budget issue, more principle.

Don't they all have "different flow properties" anyway? Isn't that the whole reason for coding each injector into the DME?

As far as newer indexes not being problematic, I would argue the jury is still out on the subject, seeing as how the newer indexes likely just aren't as common (thus a small sample size) and are of course newer, so they haven't aged to a point of failure like the much more common older injectors.

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone knows of the best injector sources currently. I got 4 out of Advance Auto before they ran out of stock, then just over the last few days they jacked the price up to $360! O'Reilly's is around $260 last I checked.

So close but 2 injectors away, haha.

Ebay. I bought 3 new index 12's and 3 used. New ones I got for 175 and the used ones were selling for 50 bucks a piece. If you're installing old ones, make sure you install new decoupling rings and teflon seals. Installed and coded them myself. Dealer quotes 2600 bucks for index 12s with install/coding. No thanks. My index 8s were leaking bad. A lot of blowby/carbon from exhaust. Thought it was normal being direct injected. After swapping all injectors, theres absolutely no carbon/ blowby coming out of my exhaust.

Not sure what happened with Advance Auto, 100% price increase seems strange.

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding injector modulation via O2 feedback to the ecu. The DME dumps the wastegates wide open at cruise and does individual cylinder monitoring. After completing this test it makes adjustments to each injector's flow correction table so it knows how much each injector is actually injecting. Just open INPA and you'll see those tables clear as day. My primitive understanding is that there is a property of the index 12s that prevents them from being scaled relative to the previous indexes. That is, "plus 10%" on an injector 12 is not equal to "+10%" on an earlier injector. Because banks are scaled relative to themselves, one bank of I12s will work with another mixed bank, but not within banks.

I found that Summit Racing was selling them for $106 ea. in December. They were out of stock but available for back-order, so I bought a set. Took about 2 months to receive, but they are indeed OEM index 12 injectors. They've since raised the price to $249.

I see one reputable place has them for $108/ea but again out of stock and over a month to get in (going to call them tomorrow). So a few questions:

Anyone know of sources for reasonably priced injectors that are in stock?

Have the intermotor and other differently branded injectors that aren't refurbished truly verified to be OEM or at least fully equivalent to index 12's?

Finally, any crazy people that would vote to keep going with my index 1's until there is an obvious problem beyond occasional idle roughness without fault codes?

Where are people sourcing these now? FJ1284 is an absurd $285 on O'Reily, even more at Advance Auto (350!). These prices are laughably ridiculous...
