That might work for you as well.
I don't want it in the garage as that is considered one of the worst places to have a safe, too easy to steal (hence me not worrying about getting it out of my old house).

I have called about every place I can find and one of the moving companies referred me to someone that specializes in moving safes. From talking to the specialist, they are just using a dolly and do it as a side gig. The going rates for hiring 4 professional movers to dolly/carry it is $240 an hour or $350 flat rate from the side gig guy.

I obviously don't like any of my options and I have not made a decision. I did survey a little more and I can avoid the hill by going through a lot next to mine (house that is for sale) so that takes the hill out of the question but not the grass.

I have yet to find any moving company around here with the dollies that Maestro showed in his pic.

A heavy duty appliance dolly (not the one at Harbor Freight) can actually do the job if you have two strong guys behind it. As for your grass, that's a little tougher. How about a long strip of scrap carpet? Put it down on the grass and just let the safe slide down on it's back. Obviously you'd have to speed up or slow the decent at times so make sure it's tied up to something with a pulley or two at the top of the hill to give you leverage. When I was by myself I used a bunch of 4ft lengths of PVC pipe. I just layed them on the ground and tipped the safe onto them - then just rolled the safe across the pvc pipes (moving the "used" pipes to the front of the line as I went etc...) A tip for tilting a big safe by yourself is just open the door all the way LOL. Or just use a whole lot of helium balloons.
IF I was going to do this myself, I wouldn't attempt it with less than 4 people personally. Without the hill in the equation I am back to mulling over getting the lifting harnesses and just 4 person carrying it without the door on. I know all 4 of us can lift and carry at least 250 lbs. As of yet, the decision is still in the air. I will update when I make a decision and it all goes down.

Ahh, but what if one of those persons slips on wet grass, or trips on something...can each of you carry an additional and very sudden 63 pounds each?

Worth considering...could trigger a chain reaction where someone doesn't get out of the way in time. Hopefully wouldn't happen of course, and chances are low, but they are there.

Have you called a safe mover?
When I bought my safe I had a guy that does specifically safe moving and install pick it up and deliver/setup.
Install, bolt down, level, etc all part of the deal. My safe wasn't as heavy (650#?) And it cost me $200 or so?
Moving company wanted $150 for oversized item when we left the state. Fucked up the paint on bottom. 2nd movers fucked up paint on top. 3rd time we did it ourselves with an appliance dolly.
If elevation change is needed I will hire a safe mover again. Or just buy a new (bigger and better) safe.

Apologies, but as a follow up to this, may I suggest you have your significant other / wife video record the whole process if you do it yourselves?

You'd be able to use the video either way:

If successful, you can put it on YouTube to show people the correct way to lift and transport a safe.

If unsuccessful, you can send the video to Fail Army and be featured there.

Either way, people benefit.

I think I will be recording no matter who moves it...

If the hill is removed from the equation and grass is the killer, can you not get it on a dolly and then just get a couple boards to get it across the yard? One for it to be on, the next that you roll on, move the first in front of the second you just rolled onto, repeat...

Standard dolly with casters and the boards (plywood or something?) to distribute weight and save grass.

That is the current thought process. There is a little longer way over that is flat with no side tilt either so that might work.

But I have set an appointment for Saturday for the "safe mover" to come and do it for me. I'll take some pics of the process. He is bonded/has insurance so at least takes the risk out of the equation.

Safe emptied, pallet jack to move out and starting to wrap it. The trailer is pretty heavy duty too!

Got it across the flat part to the basement door using the leapfrog plywood and a perfectly suited dolly. Now onto the safe dollies for the last stretch.

Cool pics of some specialized gear. And the cat. Never forget to hire a cat to supervise - if it worked for the pyramids, it's gotta be a good idea

Pulled out the safe moving Dollies. Lot of moving blankets and plywood to make sure not to crack tile or hurt carpet. Turns out the guy just didn't talk his business up enough, definitely not what I would consider a normal "side gig"

What?

Well, all safe and sound now. Sitting on hockey pucks to get some airflow below all ready to be bolted down.

Digging the TV in the kitchen! If I spent more time in my kitchen I'd have to throw one up in there. Hoping to get me shit together to where I can start on my garage build. I'll have a smart TV in there for background noise, music and to throw instructional youtube videos up in a pinch.

Glad you got the safe in there!

Thats the basement bar, it just resembles a kitchen with the fridge (coming tomorrow), microwave and sink. The real kitchen is upstairs That TV is to compliment the 75" across the room so that nobody misses anything on game days.

For something this heavy duty, I would hire someone. I totally get your viewpoint as a fellow DIY'er/cheapo, but this is an exception.
